San Andreas, CA...Jeff Crovitz, PE, submitted his letter of resignation and intent to retire from his position as Calaveras County Department of Public Works Director. Congratulations to Mr. Crovitz.

He is a knowledgable and intelligent public servant whos contributions
to the county will be sorely missed. He will not be easily replaced.

Leadership under our current Board of Supervisors has become so seriously lacking and misdirected that our county can no longer be taken seriously as an opportunity for career employees, specially middle and senior staff.

Not until this entire board is replaced will the people of Calaveras County have the benefit of stable government and the beneficial work environment that brings for its employees.

Best of luck Mr. Crovitz.

The real question is why did he leave? Seems like we should be asking the BOS and CAO Lutz what is going on. Also, how are other department heads doing under this “leadership?”

Congrats Mr. Crovitz, you did the best you could with this dysfunctional board and staff. You brought the most consistency we've had in that office in a long time and now they're going back to the merry go round of suck ups to the CAO, Mr. Putz.

The big question is how did Mr. Crovitz manage to stick it out this long? It must be hard to be one of the only competent people in a dysfunctional county government.

Replace the 1/2 bridge with one of those concrete low crossing bridges , with gates. Like the one at Woods creek in Tuolumne county. Low cost and no washouts.

During the hiring hearings of Mr. Crovitz, his history with CalTrans was expressed by a citizen, basically Crovitz leaves CalTrans or be fired. The BOS didn't want to listen, so they hired him. What has Crovitz accomplished, while employed by Calaveras County ? Was it worth what they paid him? Apparently not! Goodbye Jeff Crovitz!

Crovits is nothing more than a santa Cruz hippie. This county keeps hiring losers. Scott Anderson, crovits... why? The county only hires friends... or friends of friends. Has nothing to do with qualifications. It's only about who you know! That's why nothing gets accomplished

The rats are deserting a sinking ship, led by Captain Clapp and his trusty sidekick Denise Mills. If Clapp get ree'lected look for a few more department heads to resign.

      Mr Crovitz
Job well done. We will miss you.
You came on board and have dealt with one catastrophy after another. Butte fire, mud slides, flooding, tree mortality, cannabis industry. You have never had a proper budget.
The Supervisors may not appreciate you because they were not in office through all of this, besides Oliveira. But we the people know what you went through.
Thank you for your service to our county.
      God bless

Mr. Crovitz is a genuinely nice guy. However, many in the PW dept are NOT sorry to see him leave. The CAO and the Board are not to blame for his poor job performance, that's on Crovitz and the rest of his crack management team. Thank you Mr. Crovitz for seeing the light and moving on. The PW dept hasn't had decent leadership in 10 years...wonder anything at all gets done.

Wow it sounds like you have some 1st hand knowledge about the inner workings of the PWD. Instead of taking pot shots at your “crack” management team maybe you should see if there is anything you can do to help get the work done. Ten years ago worthless Garcia character wrecked the county...didn’t get anything done for 5 years except get a nice fat raise when he threatened to leave. Then Mr. Crovitz arrives. Within a few months the Butte Fire happens and he spent the next 2 years trying to recover from multiple disasters. He begged administration and the BOS for help, but none ever came. Good luck to you Mr. Crovitz. You deserve a world of happiness away from Calaveras County.

So, while the world says Mr. Krovitz resigned, let's be clear. He was FORCED out by three Supervisors who are managing this County based on their own personal agenda, not FOR THE PEOPLE.
It took Calaveras over a year to hire Jeff. His pedigree includes being a VP and senior project manager doing engineering projects for employers such as the California Department of Transportation, the National Park Service and other counties in the State of California.
It's not like talent is running to work here in Calaveras County. We've got quite the reputation! Say what you will about Mr. Krovitz, but when faced with a $4M budget and $6.5M in Butte Fire Infrastructure Damage, it's incumbent on LEADERSHIP to close the very clear and evident financial gap for ANY department head to be successful.
People may have not cared for Jeff Krovitz, but it's hard to do a good job with one hand tied behind your back.
