Registrations Open For Youth Tennis Clinics

Murphys, CA...Registrations are now being accepted for a series of Youth Tennis Clinics to be held in Calaveras County beginning June 11. Organized by Angella Woods, a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) since 2003, the program is open to all junior players, ages 4 to 17, with a special emphasis on current and aspiring high school athletes. The sessions will be held at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp, and the Wintercreek Tennis Facility in Murphys.

The clinics will be divided into six sessions scheduled for Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Each session will be tailored to fit a specific age group and individual skill level. The age groups are pee-wees (4 to 7), elementary school (8-10), middle school (11-14) and high school (15-17). The skill levels are beginners, intermediates, and advanced.

Woods has been a teaching professional in Calaveras County for over fifteen years. She will be joined in conducting the clinics by Jim Triolo, a USPTA professional, and Peter Regan, tennis director at the Airport Health Club in Santa Rosa and Colony Club in Half Moon Bay. Both Triolo and Regan have over thirty years of teaching experience.

“It is our goal for each student to have fun while learning the skills needed to build a strong foundation for the game of tennis,” says Woods. “We want to help them to reach their full potential so that they will experience new heights of enjoyment and personal growth.”

Students will learn skills through a variety of game based drills and activities. The format will include the progressions for serving, groundstrokes, and volleying. They will learn strategies and court positioning for both singles and doubles match play.

The cost for each weeklong clinic is $100 per person (ages 8-17) and $60 for pee-wees (4-7). To determine the most appropriate session, and to register, contact Angella Woods by email at madfortennis@yahoo.com, or by phoning her at (209) 728-2497 or (209) 770-5076.

Bret Harte High School is located at 323 S Main St, Angels Camp. The Wintercreek Facility is located adjacent to the historic schoolhouse on Jones St. in Murphys.
