Police Department Wife to the Rescue

Angels Camp, CA...A great story from the Angels Camp Police Dept..."On 06-01-18, at approximately 3 PM, the Angels Camp PD responded to a call for service at Utica Park. A person visiting the park reported finding a baby owl, and requested assistance with relocating it. The Angels Camp Police Department takes pride in providing professional police services to the community, and that includes responding to calls that may be out of the norm for most police departments. Once our highly skilled and well trained officer was on scene and assessed the situation, he did what any professional police officer would do...he called his wife.

A PD wife responded to the scene and took control, transporting the owlet to a local wild animal rescue, "Motherlode Wildlife Care." Motherlode Wildlife Care is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is permitted through both the CA and US Department of Fish and Wildlife, and their volunteers have the required training to ensure that wildlife in need receives the best possible care so that the wildlife has the best chance possible of being released back into the appropriate natural habitat.

Motherlode Wildlife Care is based in Tuolumne County, and they are open from 8 AM to 8 PM, 7 days per week. Their phone number is 209-677-7249, and their website is www.mlwild.org. They can be reached by email at mlwildcare@gmail.com. They are actively seeking reliable volunteers and donations.

If you were to ask the baby owl's mother she would rather it be left alone, the biggest threat to it was from human intervention.... it should be brought back to the location and left alone.

Respectfully disagree - this time. It was in Utica Park with the farmers market and a hundred plus people (and dogs) all around. This was the best call in this scenario.

That's right, wildlife doesn't belong in open space near humans. I once a raccoon and some deer there, they should be removed also... Right?

Not true at all. It's just it's happening and thank God there are people and organizations that can help. From my perspective, thought it a better outcome than being picked up by more than a couple of dogs whose people thought it was okay to have off leash.

^GOD has nothing to do with this. I didn't know that it was god that filled out job applications, or college credentials, the police academy and lastly an actual human that walks and talks, works hard for barely a living wage. Yes, I know with the powers that be praise GOD FOR HIS HARD WORK, up there in the imaginary unknown. All you people in your crap little town really need to move with the times, maybe just a little bit... Faith is fine, but common sense exists also.

Do good city dwellers messing with nature the only thing accomplished with taking it from its home was separating it from its mother.

Respectfully disagree - as I did with another poster above. Dozens and dozens of people, children and dogs all around for farmers market. That little fuzz ball wouldn't have lasted the night without someone not knowing how to care for it trying to "rescue" it or a dog killing it.

I don't care if you agree or not..,.. it's natural for that owl to be on the ground. Unfortunately for it and it's mother, uneducated, in wildlife ways, come to the rescue. Human involvement wasn't necessary. That's the facts.
Whoever found it should have backed away and left the area. Then they would actually have protected nature.

Just stop, picking people who were just trying to do the right thing is just rude. I know you are "smarter and better" than all of those people who actually acted and helped but just leave it along and go back to your self absorbed smugness.

When you see a helpless animal of person please just leave them alone. I for one and glad and proud people went out of their way to help

Really.... if you want to help nature then get educated in its ways, don't assume what is best for something you don't understand, this was a wild animal, not a puppy or kitten.....

You know, this is sort of what happens when worlds collide. Happy that the wildlife rescue group could help because the reality is that Utica Park is just too populated a place for mother owl to have picked.

Motherlode Wildlife Rescue and Tucare Wildlife Rescue having been doing this kind of works for many years. It's where various animal control agencies and others bring wildlife to be rehabilitated and released to the wild if deemed able to survive on their own. If any injuries are too significant, animals are nursed back to health and become "ambassadors" to spread the word about how to live near and respect wildlife. CA agencies are well aware of this organization and the good they do as partners in rehabilitating wildlife.

This owl wasn't sick, injured, lost,...... it just needed to be left alone....it's natural and normal to be where it was found......you all want to pat yourselves on the back and feel good about being some kind of hero.

Let's take a step back, now we know of another example as to why the a.c.p.d. and it's community is so extremely screwed up. More worried about a baby owl than the drunks, meth heads, wife beaters and junkies. Not to mention trolling todd the turd fordahl chief of police and supposed adult needing to be spanked for his racist bigoted extremely fascist remarks on local news forums. Last but not least, they call themselves good Christians. Get on board and BAN that p.o.s. town! 3 years and counting! Hey I'm suprised one of the locals didn't kill the poor thing to be honest.

Well I find this story very enlightening and again you shouldn't be dissing Todd for what he's doing. I think he's doing a great job. I was at Calaveras Lumber today talking to an old friend who works there. This same friend had to call the local LE because this lady illegally posted up a canopy in a parking place right in front for recall petition booth. I left before the PD came and as I was leaving I noticed that lady was on her cell calling someone up. Later on my friend-who I was riding with-had to go to the nearby bank. After that we drove through the parking lot and noticed that the lady and the canopy was gone. I overheard my friend on the phone telling the police that the lady stated it was her constitutional right to do what she was doing. Apparently she didn't ask for permission or get clearance from Calaveras Lumber either. Now I'm wondering if such parties like the CCA is going to go after the owners of Calaveras Lumber and sue them. I would like to see them try! They won't get anywhere. Those pot people need to realize that they're losing the battle.

The ban will prevail. Now they (the CCA people) are trying to hook up with the ACLU and hook up with them to sue the county. Fat chance! Then that same group wants this county to be a sanctuary county. What it boils down to is this whole group of people is just a faction of the pro Hillary people and they're still mad cause she didn't win. I say get over it people and it's going on year #2. Look what's happening to "No Paying George Soros." He didn't pay those protesters and that deal didn't last long. So I too say HA HA Hillary!

Back to the owl-I think it's a cute story and I'll tell you one thing, my friend at Calaveras Lumber and I go back many years here in the county and we both know a lot more about how the system works here and it will always stay the same here. Now some people will call us old timers a bunch of ignorant hateful racist red necks and it doesn't phase me none. We are part of a "strand up group" of people who have been here for many years (some way more than me) and we are tired of all of this marijuana crap! Long live the ban!

To crazy pants: Yes I just love to ramble on. BTW I believe the canopies for recall were illegally placed in front of Bret Harte high school today-they were less than 100 feet from the polling place-the Bret Hart theater. As per state law 3018 Provisions for Elections. So we will see about that when it comes to the validity of how the petition was presented. I'm sure there is a watch dog agency (not from this county of course) actually doing a check on this and also the local Elections Office. These pot people are really screwing up with the petitions. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same people sign twice! And who the hell is Dennis Wilson? One guy asked me if I would sign a recall petition for Dennis Wilson. I just hope he didn't do that with everyone that he approached. He would never get any signatures. The last time I ever heard about Dennis Wilson is that he performed for Queen Elizabeth I for her 50th year celebration as queen. I don't believe he is involved with politics though LOL!

Let's see Cox will be running and I'm sure he will get more votes than Newsom. What an atrocity that was when Newsom took off to Hawaii for a few days when the city of SF needed him the most! Do you call that a good politician? I think not. And I say again Kudos to Chief Fordhal and his department with the owlet. And also kudos to him for speaking up at the Angels city council meeting the other night about the out of county marijuana vendors.

^actually the barn owl is close to being added to the list, and another northern California owl as well. . Population is down for the barn owl and has been in decline. Now I do not think they should have bothered it but then again I would not have felt comfortable leaving it on the ground surrounded by the community of angels camp either. Yikes! Maybe the caller felt the same way? Either way what's done is done, the baby looks terrified. Sad...

An attempt to locate the nest was made. The owlet in question was dehydrated and needed professional medical intervention to rehydrate it. It had also had an empty crop meaning no food for at least 12 hours. In short per the professionals it would not have survived on the ground under the bushes. (Barn owls dont nest under bushes) All attempts will be made to release it back in the same location
