Green Fire Caused by Campfire Says Cal Fire TCU ~ By Chip Dingman

Douglas Flat, CA...This fire was dispatched at 4:15 PM 6/22/18. The first in engine reported about 1 ache with a slow rate of spread moving up hill. Aircraft were also dispatched to this fire, with one tanker making a drop on the fire and copter 404 putting their crew on the ground and making a few drops on the fire. One tanker was released without masking a drop. The other tanker was released after it made a drop. Copter 404 was released after making a few drops on the fire and picking up their crew. Total acreage was 1.4 acres.

The Bottom Photo is from Cal Fire TCU of the offending campfire. Other than starting the blaze and a poor choice of campfire days you have to have to admit it is a nice rustic looking campfire setting.

Dispatched to this fire: CalFire, Murphy’s Fire protection District, Angles City Fire, Water tenders from Ebbits Pass Fire, Altaville Malones Fire Protection District, San Andreas Fire Protection District, 2 Crews from Vallecito, Dozer 4442

There is "homeless camp" at Big Flat and Mine Dump road a couple of miles outside of downtown Murphys. Has been there since at least last summer and nothing has been done to close it down. The people were washing clothes in the creek when there was water in the creek and there is now a lot of foot traffic going out that way. The county has had complaints about it so they do know. What will happen when one of them decide to have a campfire and it gets out of hand?

There is also a trailer on the east end of Big Flat Road that was being camped in last year. Thanks to cannabis all the county resources for enforcement of illegal camping violations have been sucked up. The county does however still take property tax money from the neighboring parcel owners. On the good side, haven't had any breakins or burgularies from these transients in the neighborhood that we know of.

there is no pot growers, its the dam wine people, when will they learn?? it must have been one of their vineyard "trimmers" just living off the land, we all have to deal with these graped up junkies, when will the sheriff do something, every single day there is a DUI, wonder were they were coming from, probably a tasting room where these junkies get wasted then just drive away. UNBELIEVABLE

Maybe but I don't think so. If you haven't noticed and as another posted above, there are a handful of guys that look a bit down on their luck hanging around greater Murphys. A couple can be seen regular bathing in the creek by the park; another is a regular sleeping by the side of the plaza behind the El Dorado Bank. Think we all want to be compassionate but when they are on private property and perhaps endangering the safety and well-being of others - well, that's a different story entirely. Look how much those people have put into developing the beautiful Locke Vineyards property and it could have gone up in flames.

          Look at your opportunity.
Instead of pouring out your sympathy for some foreign speaking homeless asylum seeker, you can now adopt a local transient and give them asylum in your home.
Remember, consistency if the first sign of liberal compassion.

Or perhaps we need to address the issue and possible resources? That's a big part of how the illegal immigrant debacle came to be - no one fighting for their political survival would make a consistent statement.

You know, I volunteer and provide food at a community dinner that offers meals even a shower to those a bit down on their luck. But to take someone home with no understanding of their medical and mental condition is just plain foolhardy. One can help without potentially endangering loved ones.

If this is indeed an issue with you, the other local papers and social media run similar stories all the time. Like the feature one of the papers did on Candy Rock a year or two ago. Yet tourism is supposed to be our number one industry to bring in needed dollars. So, how do we balance that?

Look at what has happened to Natural Bridges! I've been there once in 35 years, yesterday driving by there, there we're cars parked every where, if there we're 4 people in each car there could have been up to 150 people down there! That place was crowded with 10 people! These do good travel experts need to keep their mouths shut, Guy McCarthy that works for the DUD is responsible for the mess down there! Let people find our gems on their own, we don't need them broadcasting all the once secret, fun places!
