Yosemite Roundhouse Restoration Project with Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians

Jackson, CA...The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians believes strongly in helping our neighbors and strives to assist the community and the families of Amador County. As many of you know, we have been working hard over the last several years to restore the parks in your neighborhoods. One such project, Chaw’se Indian Grinding Rock, involved the privileged opportunity to rebuild the sacred Roundhouse.

Our Native Construction Crew is now honored with assisting the Southern Sierra Miwuk nation and the Wahhoga Committee in rebuilding their Roundhouse in Yosemite Valley. Years ago, their original village was destroyed, and now, nearly a half-century later, our Native crew is working long hours, away from home, alongside our friends in Yosemite to accomplish this task.

The Southern Sierra Miwuk Tribe is not yet federally recognized but they aim to establish this acknowledgment soon. To become federally recognized would further assist them in their efforts to rebuild their village and preserve the Miwuk history and culture for generations to come. These tasks will take time and is quite costly; which is why we are looking to you, our local community, to join in the efforts of accomplishing these goals. This project is very important to our Tribe, as we are excited for the opportunity to bring this gift of good medicine back into their lives.

Your donations are greatly appreciated and will be equally divided between both endeavors. Monetary donations can be made to the Amador Community Foundation at www.amadorcommunityfoundation.org, fund name: Jackson Rancheria Yosemite Roundhouse or at one of the many collection locations onsite here at Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.
