Off Duty CHP Officer Shoots Wife and Then Himself in Murder - Suicide.

Martell, CA...On Monday September 3, 2018 at around 10:45pm, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the owner of Get Ripped Nutrition, Martell. The caller reported he was inside the business with a women and her husband was banging on the door to get inside. The caller stated the husband was a California Highway Patrol Officer.




Amador County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and arrived on scene within a few minutes as shots were being fired. Deputies found a victim with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and two deceased individuals in the parking lot of the business. The wounded victim is a 44 year-old male out of Jackson who is the owner of the nutrition store. The victim was air lifted for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Amador County Sheriff Detectives responded and conducted an initial investigation. According to the victim and an unrelated witness who was on scene, the victim and a 42 year-old female from Sutter Creek were inside the store. The female’s husband was banging on the door attempting to gain entry. At some point, the husband fired a handgun into the store window and made entry. The victim was shot inside the store and a struggle ensued between all three individuals. The struggle continued outside into the parking lot where the victim was able to flee the scene. The husband shot his wife several times in the parking lot resulting in her death before turning the handgun on himself.

The husband was identified as 45 year-old Brad Wheat of Sutter Creek. Brad was an off-duty CHP Officer. His wife was identified as 42 year-old Mary Wheat of Sutter Creek.
