Moderate Injuries to Sonora Man in Tuolumne Road Collision

Sonora, CA...On Friday, September 14, 2018, at approximately 8:00 PM, 22 year old Tuolumne resident, Savannah McNeil, was driving a 2005 Ford 500, stopped westbound, within the westbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, in preparation to turn left into a private driveway west of Morris Road, yielding to oncoming eastbound traffic. 21 year old Sonora Resident, Joseph Davis, was driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma westbound, in the westbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, at a speed in excess of 40 mph, approaching to the rear of McNeil's vehicle. 50 year old Los Banos resident, Louis Mendez was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra eastbound, within the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd, at approximately 55 mph approaching the area McNeil from the west. For unknown reasons, Davis failed to observe McNeil's vehicle stopped directly ahead in his path of travel. Due to Davis' unsafe speed, the right front of Davis' vehicle collided with the left rear of McNeil's vehicle.

The force of the collision caused McNeil's vehicle to be propelled forward and Davis' vehicle to pivot in a clockwise direction. McNeil's vehicle rotated approximately 90 degrees in a southwesterly direction, into the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd and directly into Mendez' path of travel. Mendez was unable to take evasive action and the front of Mendez' vehicle collided with the left side of McNeil's vehicle. Davis' vehicle came to rest on its wheels, facing in a northerly direction, blocking the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd. McNeil's vehicle came to rest on its wheels, facing in a northwesterly direction, within the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd. Mendez' vehicle came to rest on its wheels, facing in an easterly direction, within the eastbound traffic lane of Tuolumne Rd.

All parties involved were properly restrained at the time of the collision. No alcohol or drugs were suspected to have been a factor in the collision. Davis was flown to Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto to be treated for moderate injuries. A 27 year old passenger in McNeil's vehicle was transported via ground ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora to be treated for minor injuries. The roadway was blocked for approximately 1 1/2 hours.
