Sad Ending to Search for Bradford Dozier...He Perished in Climbing Accident

Markleeville, CA...The search for missing person Bradford Dozier ended on November 3, 2018, when his body was found at the base of a cliff in Alpine County, California. Mr. Dozier died as a result of his injuries when he fell approximately two-hundred feet as he attempted to free climb steep terrain on the north side of Peak 9626. Mr. Dozier was described by family and friends as an avid and strong hiker who enjoyed climbing peaks in the Sierras. The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, along with all involved emergency personnel convey our condolences to Mr. Dozier’s wife, family and friends.

The search for Mr. Dozier began on October 28, 2018, when he was reported as missing. Search efforts continued for six days. Agencies involved included Search and Rescue volunteers from as far away as San Diego. Also assisting were Military personnel, Civil Air Patrol, National Guard, and the California Highway Patrol. On the day Mr. Dozier was found, one hundred forty searchers were involved.

The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office thanks all those who selflessly and tirelessly volunteered their time to help find Mr. Dozier. Although we did not save Mr. Dozier’s life, we did return him to his loved ones. I sincerely hope you all realize how much the public appreciates your efforts and that being a member of the Search and Rescue community shows a concern for the welfare of others that is immeasurable.

Condolences to the family and thank you to all of the search and rescue people. Seems odd that someone would climb alone especially to such a height. I have done some climbing back in my youth and the number one rule was always "never climb higher than you are willing to fall". We always used protection or top-roped for climbing boulders. Even with protection we only climbed above each piece as far as we were willing to fall. Sounds like he was doing what he loved to do, so sorry the outcome.

Wow. What a total lack of empathy and compassion. It must be awful to be you. Or to even know you.

Condolences to the family. May you find peace in friends and good memories.

So very sorry to hear the outcome of this search. Although I didn’t know Mr Dozier I was wishing that he was going to be found safe and reunited with his family. (And John, please delete the absurd post above. It’s simply not right.)

Money wasted on search and rescue, volunteers time wasted on this search and rescue. What a jack off, I could care less if one decides to put their life in danger but he put others in danger for his own stupidity. Why are the pine nutters being so nice? Oh that's right he wasn't brown.

Our condolences to the Family. So sorry to hear.

To the Asshat who can't manage to contain himself enough to show a little respect when a man has died, screw you. Hope you rot. Do the world a favor and take yourself out before someone else has to do it for you.

I hope his family has to pay search and rescue for their time!

If he would of stayed in the valley then he would still be alive today!

I hope you get lost and nobody comes looking for you.

Guess you're too full of hatred and self-loathing that you feel the need to post this crap about a man who lost his life while enjoying nature. Shame on you doesn't quite cut it. I'd like to take you out in the woods myself.

You're exactly what is wrong with the world today.

Nobody said a word here about a selfie so maybe have somebody who can read help you out.

Just apologize to the family of this poor man for being such as A-hole and go back to living off your Mom's social security check and hating how your life turned out.

                  You're clearly ignorant.
