Robbery in Angels Camp Leads to Pursuit and Subject Arrested

Angels Camp, CA...On 11-15-18 at about 1:17pm CCSO Dispatch received a reported robbery at the CVS Pharmacy located on North Main Street in the city of Angels Camp. It was reported that two Hispanic male suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts and baseball hats were loitering around the store. These males jumped the pharmacy counter and grabbed medications before fleeing. A witness called Dispatch and provided the suspect’s vehicle description. As law enforcement was responding to the call, two Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office deputies recognized a vehicle leaving the immediate area matching the suspect’s description.

Within two minutes of the initial call coming in to Dispatch, the Deputies attempted a traffic stop on this grey Honda sedan which failed to yield. A records check on the vehicle revealed that it was stolen from Lodi. Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Deputies initiated a pursuit of the vehicle on Highway 49 leaving the city of Angels Camp.
Deputies pursued the vehicle into the town of San Andreas at which time officers from the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, which is standard procedure. The pursuit continued westbound out of Calaveras County.

At 1:51pm CCSO Dispatch was informed by CHP that the suspect vehicle was disabled through use of spike strips in San Joaquin County on Highway 12 near Atkins Road in the town of Clements. One suspect was immediately taken in to custody and the other fled on foot to a nearby orchard. CCSO Deputies responded to the area assisting CHP and other law enforcement. After an extensive search of the area, the second suspect was not captured and is still outstanding.

Evidence linked to the robbery was recovered from in and around the suspect’s vehicle. 30 year old Ricardo Vasquez-Moreno of Lodi was arrested at the conclusion of the pursuit and booked in to the Calaveras County Jail on charges of Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy, and Vehicle Theft. His bail is still pending.

This investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time. Anyone with pertinent information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Angels Camp Police Department at (209) 736-2567.
