“Draped Figure Study of Jennifer” by John Turnbaugh
“Still Life Study with Eggs” by Peggy Kroll-Roberts
Following the reception, the art will be on display at the center through Apr. 26. The art students are currently enrolled in Hanson’s classes in beginning and intermediate watercolor, and beginning drawing. A number of techniques are introduced by Hanson through her courses, including structure, line work and tonal development of forms.
Lori Hanson, a local Calaveras County artist, holds a masters degree from the San Francisco Art Institute and apprenticed in Massachusetts under the renowned American portrait artist, Gregory Gillespie. The SFMOMA Artist Gallery at Ft. Mason in San Francisco currently handles her work and her show at the Haldan Gallery in South Lake Tahoe will open in spring 2009. Hanson’s paintings can be found in collections across the country.
“The Calaveras Center show is a great opportunity for the community to see how the progression and development of skills in structural elements are involved in creating a powerful drawing or watercolor,” said Hanson.
For more information on the art show and reception, contact the Calaveras Center office at 736-5940. Information on enrolling in Hanson’s art classes this summer will also be provided at the event.
