CHP San Andreas Area Requests Witness Information...Official Press Release From CHP

San Andreas Area is currently investigating a Motorcycle collision that occurred at an unknown time but after 5 PM on Saturday March 22, 2008 eastbound Murphys Grade Road, approximately 2.2 miles east of Lower French Gulch Road. Earl E Wiggins, a 61 year old male from Hathaway Pines, was last seen at his work in Angels Camp at 5 PM on Saturday. He was riding a black 1997 Harley Davidson “Ultra Classic” with a helmet......

He was reported as missing Sunday when he failed to show up to work. The report was filed with the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department.

Mr. Wiggins was located by friends and family members Tuesday at 9:50 AM as they tried to retrace his normal routes.

Preliminary investigation reveals Mr. Wiggins was traveling east bound on Murphys Grade Road when he failed to negotiate a left radius curve in the roadway. He ran off the south roadway edge and was ejected. Both the motorcycle and Mr. Wiggins were located approximately 75 feet over the south roadway edge down an extremely steep embankment.

Any witnesses to this collision are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol, San Andreas Office at (209) 754-3541 during business hours or to the CHP Dispatch Center in Stockton at (209) 943-8600.

This is the third fatality collision that has occurred in San Andreas CHP’s jurisdiction for 2008, and the first motorcycle fatality. In 2007, the San Andreas CHP investigated 5 motorcycle fatality collisions.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family during this very tragic time.
