Minor Injuries in Traffic Collision Involving Motorcyclists and a Bear
Long Barn, CA...On June 09, 2019 at approximately 12:10 pm, Frank Henrard, a 42-year-old male from Belgium, was riding a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on State Route 108, east of Long Barn, CA in the number 2 lane. He was traveling directly ahead of, Luc Henrard, a 46-year-old male from France who was also riding a 2019 Harley Davidson. Both riders were traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour when suddenly a bear entered the roadway from the center median, directly in front of Mr. Frank Henrard’s motorcycle. Mr. Frank Henrard was unable to avoid the collision with the front of his motorcycle and the bear. After the collision, Mr. Frank Henrard lost control of the motorcycle as it traveled to the left and impacted the dirt center median. Mr. Luc Henrard observed the collision and swerved to the right to avoid the bear and Mr. Frank Henrard. As a result, Mr. Luc Henrard lost control of his motorcycle as it traveled off the north roadway edge and collided with the embankment. Following the collision, the bear ran away from the collision scene.
Both riders were transported to Adventist Health, Sonora by ground ambulance and were treated for minor injuries. The Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted and responded to the scene but was unable to locate the bear. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
