Last Week's Major Injury Collision in Murphys Has Tragically Turned Fatal
Murphys, CA...(Update...We have confirmed with the San Andreas CHP Office that 59 year old Kevin Horigan has passed away from his injuries. They have also sent an updated release) Earlier details from CHP..."On August 25, 2019, at approximately 1624 hours, Horigan was driving his 2013 Mazda MX-5 eastbound on SR-4, west of Williams Street. Lynch Gillespie was driving her 2014 Subaru Impreza westbound on SR-4, west of Williams Street. For reasons still under investigation, the Miata driver unsafely allowed his Mazda to cross over the painted solid double yellow lines separating the east and westbound lanes of SR-4, directly in the path of the approaching Subaru. The front of the Mazda and the front of the Subaru collided within the westbound lane of SR-4, west of Williams Street. Following the collision, the vehicles came to rest blocking the westbound lane.
Both parties sustained major injuries and were transported from the scene. P-1 was placed under arrest at the scene, before he was released to medical personnel for treatment of his injuries.
Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to have been a factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation and no further details are available at this time."
Update...On 8/28/2019, the San Andreas CHP office was notified that Party #1, Kevin Horigan passed away from his injuries sustained in the traffic collision.

Sad to hear of the loss of life and of the major injuries.
Not trying to be mean here but it usually seems to be the impaired driver that survives these type of accidents.
Maybe one day the town of Murphys can have a parade and 🎉 with the name's of the thousands of people that have died from drunk drivers since every. Single. parade. celebration. They throw is centered around alcohol?
Condolences to all and may the injured heal quickly.

It has gotten to be this way, sadly. The word has spread too far throughout CA that Murphys is a great place to go drinking. The craft booths, nonprofit displays, etc. are simply window dressing for a bar crawl.

Why do people think that they can come here and drunk drive with impunity? Because they can. I have discussed this with a lot of folk and the general consensus it that our local police have a "hands off" approach toward misbehaving tourists because "local" wineries profits are more important than the lowly natives' safety.

Prayers for his family and friends. We do NOT know if he even drank at a local business. I know the tasting room staffs are all trained and warned about this.
He could have been drinking at his home.

Another drunken/drug abuse Murphys resident who has caused injuries and/or possibly death to an unsuspected motorist. He got what he deserved but that is only the tip of the iceberg. How many more whinos/druggies from Murphys will cause destruction because of their excessive alcohol consumption or drug abuse.

Does anyone care about the woman from San Jose that Kevin Horigan hit head on from his DUI? This woman is suffering because of a Murphys resident who decided to drink or take drugs then decided to get behind the wheel of an automobile. Prayers are for the victim not the criminal's family.
