Felony Vehicle Pursuit & Arrest in Burson Area

Burson, CA...On October 12th 2019, at about 10:15 AM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies were investigating a reported burglary in the 11000 block of Arapaho Way in Burson CA. At the conclusion of the burglary investigation, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Dispatch was informed of a suspicious circumstance at a nearby residence. Deputies learned a wanted subject named Ricky Cavaco was hiding in the residence and was possibly in possession of firearms. Cavaco was confirmed to be on felony probation out of Tuolumne County and was wanted on multiple Calaveras County and Amador County misdemeanor warrants.

Deputies staged in the area for additional units to arrive prior to making contact. While waiting nearby, Cavaco and his passenger Jace Malinowski attempted to drive out of the area in a vehicle. Deputies recognized Cavaco as the driver of the vehicle and initiated a traffic enforcement stop however, Cavaco accelerated away from the deputies. He attempted to evade them and fled on the dirt road at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit lasted for several miles and ultimately terminated in the 5000 block of Buckboard Lane in Campo Seco. The suspect vehicle became stuck after Cavaco recklessly rammed multiple locked gates in his attempt to escape. Cavaco and Malinowski proceeded to flee on foot into a heavily wooded area. Deputies gave chase and set up a perimeter. Additional units were called in to assist in the search efforts. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Off Highway Vehicles Division, as well as an Officer from the Department of Fish and Wildlife deployed OHV’s to conduct a broader search of the area.
