Nevada is Helping Guide Mark Spielman after Being Raised By Sally Hughes

Arnold, CA...Local resident Sally Hughes contributed time and love in raising a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), and was proud to see the dog graduate as a guide in a formal ceremony at the GDB campus in San Rafael, Calif on Saturday, October 26th. Shown in the photo below is puppy raiser Sally Hughes who presented guide dog Nevada a Yellow Lab to graduating student Mark Spielman. Puppy raiser Sally Hughes is a member of the local GDB Puppy Raising Club Guide Dogs for the Blind Angels Camp.

GDB uses the following breeds: yellow and black Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Lab/Golden Crosses. The puppies are born at GDB's headquarters in San Rafael, CA and then placed in the homes of volunteer puppy raisers when they are about two months old. Puppy raisers are responsible for teaching their puppies good manners and basic obedience, as well as introducing them to new experiences.

The pups return to GOB for formal guidework training when they are about 15 to 17 months old. Follo.wing the completion of training, the dogs are matched with someone who is blind or visually impaired. The new guide dog team then completes an intensive two-week course culminating with a graduation Ceremony at which the puppy raiser formally presents the dog to its new handler. All of GDB"s graduations are open to the public,

GDB is more than an industry-leading Guide Dog School; they are a passionate community that serves the visually impaired. With exceptional client services and a robust network of trainers, puppy raisers, donors and volunteers, GOB prepares highly-qualified guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or-have low vision. All Of their services are provided free of charge; they receive no government funding. GDB is headquartered in San Rafael, California, with a second campus in Boring, Oregon. More than 14,000 teams have graduated since its founding in 1942, and there are approximately 2,200 adtive teams in the field. If you know someone who could benefit from their services, please let them know about this program. To get involved, contact GDB at 800 295-4050; or visit www.auidedocis.com.

Yes that's a good program. A very good friend of mine who I knew here years ago, Richard Espinoza, went to the school for seeing-eye dogs in San Rafael for about a month. He was legally blind in one eye and he highly commended that course and passed with flying colors! Since he was on a limited income, the school paid his way there and his dog actually slept in the same room with him and they would go on practice runs around San Rafael-riding on buses, going into stores, walking down the streets, and even on the trails of Muir Woods National Monument nearby. All his transportation (along with dog-Grove) back home was paid for along with complimentary food (a big bag), and even a toothbrush and toothpaste for the dog along with toys and pooper scooper bags. Grove was a golden retriever and then later she got cancer but died a ripe old age. Richard was even asked by local school districts to do spiels about seeing-eye dogs. He was really dedicated to the program, to his dog and vice versa. Richard moved to Louisiana in 2006 and then passed away in 2012 a couple of years after his dog. God rest his soul as well as his dog!

Congrats Sally. I am a Lab lover. Had to put our last one down almost 4 years ago. and miss him everyday. I feel there's one in our future. I respect people like you that can say goodbye when the training is done. But I assume it's worthwhile knowing where the puppy is going.Keep up the good work.

A wonderful man wouldn't allow his platform to spew and support hate speech. Plain and simple John Hamilton is a white nationalist neo nazi confused conservative. How can you support trump and love animals? The Trump's trophy hunt.

Stupid partisan POS. STFU and leave this platform alone. As long as I see both bleeding hearts like you and dopey trumpers complain about this site, which isn't difficult to spot if you DON'T HAVE YOUR HEAD UP YOUR RECTUM, then it's a pretty safe bet this site and its owner are most concerned with news. Period. If you want to read comments flavored in a manner more inline with your agenda, that pathetic sentinel website should provide that, loser.

Please, return to your roost, you filthy old bat, and keep your gibberish to yourself.

OMG Another Democrat promoting hate and on a topic about love and supporting people with her training man's best friend.
Thanks to the rare breed like Sally doing work solely to help others. You're a dream come true Sally to the people you've helped. And that gentleman right there has a new best friend
      Bless you Sally.

It's people like that Democrat and his hatred, that makes me enjoying being with dogs more then the filth like him.

All the best to you sally, what a beauty you are.

What's even more humorous, I'm not a Democrat. Unlike you poor ass moron stereotypes haven't a clue what you are, let alone values. Yikes! Nothing like a doggy to brighten a half wit.

The Pine Tree allows free speech and that means you might see political opinions you don't agree with. Just the same old slime the messenger stuff the left has been doing for 60 years. Now they just want to cancel anything they don't agree with. Thank you PT!
