One Avalanche Fatality & One Serious Injury at Alpine Meadows This Morning

Tahoe City, CA...From the Placer County Sheriff..."UPDATE [12:50p.m.]: Search has been called off. After a thorough search, SAR volunteers and avalanche dogs confirmed no further victims. Sgt. Powers is near the scene with the latest on the avalanche at #alpinemeadows . One confirmed fatality, and a second victim with serious injuries on the way to a hospital. Search and Rescue volunteers/dogs still looking for more potential unaccounted victims. This is being treated as an isolated incident — the ski resort is still open, but the area near the Subway ski run is closed.

Earlier...Placer County Sheriff’s deputies are currently responding to an avalanche that occurred at Alpine Meadows this morning. Search and Rescue is responding as well, as there are several unaccounted victims. More to follow."

Yes, life will never be the same when losing a loved one. That can happen at anytime from out of the blue.
    Hug a loved one

A customer of mine lost his life there in the parking lot in the early 80’s. Avalanche was the cause. I recall three people were under 10 feet of snow and all deceased. Bummer for sure.

Seriously, do they not have avalanche control? Why was this area open if it was unstable? It sounds like the ski resort has many questions to be answered and will be held accountable for their negligence.

Better Surveillance Systems Needed

May peace be with the family and loved ones of the unfortunate souls.

We have this sort of thing happen here too.
It was a bunch of malarkey that they didn't find this guy, 2018 in Bear Valley until spring thaw.

Couldn't find the found article from The Pine Tree where he was found. But found this missing one below:

RIP Tom Mullarkey

Should never have happened. Snow fell off a roof in the resort and killed him.
