Supreme Court Backs Trump Administration's Public Charge Immigrant Policy

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Becerra today issued a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to stay the nationwide injunction on the public charge rule. As a result of the ruling, the Trump Administration will be allowed to restart its efforts to implement its harmful public charge rule while litigation is ongoing. The rule unnecessarily targets working immigrants and their families by turning the use of critical health, nutrition, and housing programs that supplement their modest incomes into barriers to lawful admission to the United States.

“This rule harms our children and families in communities across the country. It hurts our economy and the healthcare of so many Californians,” said Attorney General Becerra. “We are a nation of immigrants, so we will lean forward in the face of heartless attacks on working families. Together, we’ll continue our fight to stand up for the rights of each and every person who calls the United States their home.”

Attorney General Becerra has fought against the Trump Administration’s public charge rule every step of the way. In 2018, Attorney General Becerra called on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to withdraw its initial public charge proposal. In 2019, Attorney General Becerra detailed how the rule will negatively impact California’s public health, social services, housing, educational programs, and economy. Shortly afterward, the Attorney General filed a lawsuit asserting the rule will have a chilling effect that will discourage many other immigrants, who are not otherwise subject to the rule, from accessing benefits that they need. The Attorney General also filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to halt the rule’s implementation. Today’s decision was on the nationwide injunction in a separate public charge case out of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. California’s case is currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Individuals who are concerned about the impacts of this decision on their immigration status should consult with an immigration attorney. Each case is different and a range of factors must be considered.

A copy of the decision is available here.

Wish you politicians would put your effort into taking care of the citizens first of this country instead of illegals....

If you really did your research, you'd understand that more health care resources are used when people are not allowed to legally enroll in services. There are also more American citizens not paying their share of insurance and taking advantage of emergency rooms as their primary health care than illegals. Calaveras is a prime example.

Obviously you have not done yours, illegals cost this country more in fraudulent welfare and benefits meant for real citizens....

I like the idea of not giving illegals everything free, while we have tens of thousands of American citizens homeless, no healthcare, and our very own children going to bed hungry. If you want to help other countries people please feel free to donate to them. Yes most Americans our immigrants who came here LEGALLY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? LEGALLY, AS IN OBEYING OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS....HELLO? DO YOU UNDERSTAND? NOT BREAKING THE LAW, GET IT YET 73 PERCENTILE?

Ditto! Yep! What about our homeless veterans who are full-fledged citizens? Tell me something about that!

Do some research on this... It wouldn't cost us one dime for illegal immigrant healthcare if we deported all them.
