State-Contracted Census Workers are Walking Calaveras and Educating Residents

San Andreas, CA...Five people from Evangelista Community Relations, a state-contracted Census outreach organization, will be going door-to-door in the more densely populated areas of the county placing an emphasis on the importance of Census 2020 and educating residents on how to complete the Census. They will be canvassing Monday - Thursday from 12 noon to 6p.m. and began in Mokelumne Hill last week. They are currently canvassing in San Andreas with plans to be in Angels Camp next week.

The purpose of the canvassing is to allow citizens the opportunity to ask questions about Census 2020, methods for completing the nine (9) question survey, and voice any concerns people may have. Evangelista Community Relations plans on reaching out to more than 15,000 residents in the Sierra Foothills with an emphasis on Latino and Tribal populations.

The U.S. Census will mail out online reporting information to residents on March 12, 2020 and their website is anticipated to go live on the same date. The U.S. Census officially begins on April 1, 2020 and concludes on April 30, 2020.

It is important to know that Census questionnaire responses determine federal funding allocations for schools, health care, veterans, seniors, housing, roads, and vital public safety services for Calaveras County.
