3rd Confirmed Case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Thursday, March 26, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed a new case of novel coronavirus or COVID-19. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county is now three. This additional positive case is a Valley Springs resident who is currently receiving care outside of the county.

Immediately after being notified, Calaveras Public Health launched a case investigation. Public Health staff are identifying persons who may have had close personal contact with this individual, including any friends, family members or healthcare professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Close personal contacts identified during this investigation will be under quarantine.

Calaveras Public Health will continue to monitor this development and the results will be released as new information becomes available. “It is expected that further cases of COVID-19 infection will be identified in Calaveras residents,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer.

Calaveras Public Health reminds the community to comply with the Governor’s statewide order to stay at home. This includes avoiding all gatherings, non-essential travel, and practicing social distancing. People 65 years of age and older and those with chronic health conditions are at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19. They are advised to stay home, even if they do not have COVID-19.

Social distancing or physical distancing helps stop or slow down the spread of disease like COVID-19:
 Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
 Create a space, at least six (6) feet, between people.

Additional resources can be found on the Calaveras Public Health website at https://covid19.calaverasgov.us/ or by calling us at (209) 754-6460.

We are late to the dance. However, thanks to Donald Trump waiting 2-3 months to take this seriously, even small out of the way places like us will get more than our fair share.

1000? We will all wish 1000 was the final number. 1000 will be a drop in the bucket by the end of next week.

He didn't wait 2-3 months, he closed travel to / with CHI--NA while the liberal Dems were trying to impeach him in January. You are one of those who blames Trump for everything that happens or is wrong in this country, not the career politicians who have been in office for more than 25 years and have done nothing.

Crimson Contagion
Posted on: 2020-03-26 21:05:27   By: Anonymous

It already had a name and we have somewhat been training for it. Crimson Contagion

" In 2019, US President Donald Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services carried out a pandemic exercise named “Crimson Contagion”, which imagined a flu pandemic starting in China and spreading around the world. The simulation predicted that 586,000 people would die in the US alone. If the most pessimistic estimates about Covid-19 come true, the far better named “Crimson Contagion” will seem like a day in the park."

What I meant was that the current administration at the state and federal level lacked a strong preparedness and response plan. To simply say everyone stay away is not a plan. I don’t understand why you would think current officials at any level are going to take care of you.

With drastic change comes opportunity. While this may calm down, it appears to be around for a while so how can businesses adjust so they can exist while following social distance guidelines. For instance greater use of electronic payment to reduce physical touch points or remote ordering with purchases placed in “Amazon locker”style bins.

Please explain how someone like myself driving up to my property with all my supplies with me, causes any harm. Yes, I went to the gas station at home and I have fuel efficient car that allows me to make the round trip. I didn’t visit any business nor did I encounter anyone as I practiced social distancing. Sure, there is the potential for a car accident or heart attack. Since the area economy relies on the evil bay area residents, how can the local economy maintain a connection while maintaining social distancing guidelines in order to allow for a faster recovery when the situation improves.

I realize I should have been eloquent in my original post.
