Governor Newsom Issues Executive Order Establishing Statewide Moratorium on Evictions

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today issued an executive order banning the enforcement of eviction orders for renters affected by COVID-19 through May 31, 2020. The order prohibits landlords from evicting tenants for nonpayment of rent and prohibits enforcement of evictions by law enforcement or courts. It also requires tenants to declare in writing, no more than seven days after the rent comes due, that the tenant cannot pay all or part of their rent due to COVID-19.  The order is effective immediately and will apply through May 31, 2020.  Builds on the Governor’s previous executive action authorizing local governments to halt evictions

The tenant would be required to retain documentation but not required to submit it to the landlord in advance. And the tenant would remain obligated to repay full rent in a timely manner and could still face eviction after the enforcement moratorium is lifted. The order takes effect immediately, and provides immediate relief to tenants for whom rent is due on April 1st.

Today’s action builds on Governor Newsom’s previous executive order authorizing local governments to halt evictions for renters impacted by the pandemic.

A copy of the Governor’s executive order can be found here and the text of the order can also be found here.

So is he going to help the landlords pay the mortgages?

An important bill to sign

No one gives a f*ck about your ties, but you’d feel different if you were facing eviction and the $1200, wasn’t going to hold you through the month.

Does this mean we can't evict the dich in the WhiteHouse in November?

Exactly the opposite. In November we are going to get rid of our lying incompetent clown president.

Thank you Newsom! I was already five months behind on my rent payments and now my landlord can’t evict me for any reason whatsoever! When my landlord defaults on his mortgage you can restatus the property as a homeless shelter and my friends can move in with me and I will charge them rent!

Property Tax April 10 Deadline
Posted on: 2020-03-28 08:39:09   By: Anonymous

The comment has been made by several counties that it is state law determining the April 10 property tax due date, and the counties cannot extend it - not in their purview

But can’t they offer wavers like the counties did in face of the fires a few years ago?

Anyone with payment plans becomes delinquent on the 10th instead of the 30th, and eligible for auction due to default

Still feels like an eviction, when a two week waiver would allow time for relief funds, monthly stipends or retirement to deposit directly.

So is there also a moratorium on tax defaults or sales?
