Alpine County Sheriff Implores Everyone to Stay Home

Markleeville, CA...From Alpine County Sheriff Rick Stevens. "Whether you agree or disagree with the current events happening In our world, we ail must deal with them. Alpine County does not have the resources for an influx of second homeowners who want to come here and people recreating from areas affected by COVID-19. There is almost nowhere to recreate. The National Forests are being shut down. Parking lots and restrooms are closed, along with stores and restaurants.

Please stay at Horne. Recreate in your backyard. Help us help you. If you don't, it will be even a longer time until we flatten the curve. Once that happens, we can go back to our normal lives.

Alpine County's demographics tend to be in the higher range for exposure to COVID-19.

I, myself, haven't seen my children or grandchildren in over 2 weeks. My staff is isolating themselves on their days off so that we may be here to serve you. Lately, they've had to respond to calls that were unnecessary due to visitors not following the advice given by the CDC and our local Public Health Officer. You will be putting my staff and their families in danger from unnecessary exposure.

Wash your hands, sanitize touched surfaces, avoid touching your face, and stay home unless absolutely necessary.

This too, shall pass."

I've been an As#&%$#
Posted on: 2020-03-30 15:33:34   By: Anonymous

I don't even know where to begin, so I'll cut straight to the point.
My apologizes to John Hamilton, and to all the people who may of read many of my post.
When it came to politics and the comments towards our President, mainly the derogatory ones,
I responded with some that were nasty and vile and I feel shamed by my responses.
I woke earlier than usual one morning and the first thing I thought lying in bed was my father would
be embarrassed by my words, he would feel ashamed of what I've wrote.
So I made a promised to my father (who is deceased) who I have always loved much, to give my apologizes
and have vowed not to ever use a harsh, word here, not to belittle any person again.
We're all going through a difficult time as it is right now, and the last thing anyone needs, is someone
like myself, acting as nasty as I was here.
I'm embarrassed by my actions on here and to the community for any feelings I may have hurt
and I'll admit, I'm a coward to write my name as I've always came on here as, Anonymous.
Again, I'm sorry to have acted in this manner.

Sincerely

Anonymous and embarrassed

Wrong.. It is not cowardice to apologize or admit you were wrong. If it comes from your heart, no need to disclose your identity.

These are the thoughts and actions we should all be embracing during this difficult time. There are people dying in hospitals in this country and elsewhere without the benefit of loved ones at their bedsides. Likely there will be many more before we get a handle on Covid -19. Can we even begin to imagine the terror of victims or the pain of those left behind? Perhaps we can all begin to better understand there are more important things than what political party we identify with or whether we’re city, country folk or something in between. Thank you for putting your apology out there and making me too consider how I might show more respect for those with whom I might see the world a bit differently.

Who cares? TMI! Kudos to you Mr. Stephen. Yes, stay at home! I just heard that a couple of individuals wearing masks came to a looking food pantry. Then they tell the pantry people they were tested positive. Of course, they got chased off! Geez, folks have a proxy or caregiver pick up stuff for you-unless you're out of the county. If you come from elsewhere, get a caregiver, etc. to get food for you and they also have suppliers who can deliver on your front porch if you are quarantined in your home.

Don't just talk about it, do something about it. Every Friday these nasty flatlanders make the trip to Arnold to spend time in their secondary residences. What part of stay at home do they not understand? Do not bring your potential virus with you from the Bay Area and stop hoarding supplies from the local market which makes it difficult for the permanent residents to obtain their necessary groceries.

The county probably could make people who are supposed to stay at home somewhere else, just turn around and go back or get a huge fine. Or whatever. If they are supposed to stay home , but refuse to do so, then they deserve to pay a penalty. Like drunk driving.

Clearly not everyone is getting the message of empathy and compassion (which we can do while still respecting virus guidelines).
