Tuolumne County Sheriff Ask Visitors to Please Stay Home

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne County Sheriff..."During a pandemic, we can certainly understand why many would wish to seek shelter in the foothills of Tuolumne County. Although we normally appreciate and invite people from all over the world, we are asking all visitors to postpone their plans until the state and federal “stay-at-home” orders are lifted. As a smaller community with a relatively high vulnerable population, travelers pose a greater risk to residents of Tuolumne County. Furthermore, visitors who become ill place an even higher burden on our health care system, which could be quickly overwhelmed. Please do not worry about missing out because access to all parks, forests, and waterways are closed until the order is lifted.

We promise the lakes, trees, mountains and endless views will be just as beautiful once all of these restrictions are lifted. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing you in the future. Take care of each other and stay healthy!"

Does that order, for visitors to stay home, include Calaveras County shoppers to Wal-Mart??? Too bad we don't have a big box store! Maybe now our county leaders will figure it out... Keep our tax dollars in our county!

Excellent letter - but flatlanders will never listen - they do what they please. No rules apply to them. CHP needs to start checking drivers licenses and ticket them!

There are flatlanders in my subdivision right now but no one gives a crap if they could have the virus and potentially spread it around.

Absolutely. Notice and enforcement should begin at all roads into the counties. Tell visitors to turn around or face heavy fines. Give them a choice.

FEMA is sending 85 refrigerated trailers to NY City for dead body storage. There are pictures and video online of hospital staff using forklifts to load bodies into these trailers.

Coronavirus IS real and it IS deadly.

So what is it going to take to get our dumbass Calaveras supervisors and sheriff to inform people not to come here to shelter in place if they live out of town.

Shelter in Place is enforceable. Deputies should be placed at entry points into the county. Anyone showing up with a home address on their DL outside the county, should be denied entry unless employed in an essential service. Period!

👍👍. If is State law. People from out of county should stay home. If the don’t, if they come here without necessary exemption, they should be told to turnaround and go back, or get a 1000 dollar ticket and fine. It works elsewhere.
