Amador County Public Health Confirms Four Additional Cases and Evidence of Community Transmission

Amador County, CA...The Amador County Public Health Department confirms four additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Amador County residents. At least one of these cases is a result of community transmission, meaning that this case is unrelated to travel and had no identifiable contact with a known case, indicating likely infection within our community.

The positive cases are isolated at home. All household members and close contacts of these new cases are being contacted, evaluated and provided further instructions.

These four individuals are within the 18-65 age range and none have been hospitalized. No further information on these cases will be released to protect patient privacy.

“Given that we now have evidence of community transmission of COVID-19, it is especially important for the community to comply with the Stay at Home Order that has been extended through the month of April,” says Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer. “In addition we are recommending that the general public cover their face with a cloth mask when out to do essential activities.”

The best way for all community members to reduce their risk of getting sick:
 When you have to go out for essential items cover your face to protect others, maintain 6 foot physical distance, minimize your time out and wash your hands as soon as possible afterward.
 Wash hands with liquid soap and water, and rubbing for at least 20 seconds, or using alcohol-based sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
 Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
 Stay home if you are sick and call ahead before seeking medical care.
 Regularly clean high-touch surfaces.
