Fishing Couple Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges

Sonora, CA...On May 21, 2020, at approximately 8:00 PM, A CHP Sergeant observed a white Dodge Caravan that was left parked on Paseo De Los Portales Road near Phoenix Lake Road with suspicious license plates on it. After further investigation, he learned the plates were reported lost or stolen out of Santa Cruz, CA. The CHP Sergeant located the vehicle’s Identification Number which was obstructed by paper. He removed the paper and ran a registration check on it and was advised the vehicle was reported stolen out of Santa Cruz, CA.

He questioned local residents if they knew who the vehicle belonged to and they told him they did not. A second CHP Officer arrived and informed the CHP sergeant that earlier in the day he observed a male with a white shirt and female with a pink shirt standing by the vehicle. As the officer was explaining this, he noticed the same two people where now fishing by the lake.

Both the Officer and Sergeant ran to the individuals and identified them as 28-year-old Nicole Danniel Lacroix of San Luis Obispo, CA and 41-year-old Richard John Stanley of San Jose, CA. Both Mr. Stanley and Ms. Lacroix were detained and questioned. Ultimately, Ms. Lacroix indicated the vehicle belonged to her and both individuals were placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle was performed, and officers located multiple drug paraphernalia items along with other suspicious miscellaneous items. The legitimacy of those miscellaneous items is still being investigated. Both Mr. Stanley and Ms. Lacroix were booked in to the Tuolumne County Jail for multiple felony charges.
