Presribed Burn Set for Tuesday May 20th
The Stanislaus National Forest's Summit Ranger District is planning to conduct a 212 acre prescribed burn approximately one-half mile north of the community of Cow Creek, between Forest Road 5N12 and State Hwy 108. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 108, with some down canyon drift smoke visible in the evening and early morning. Depending on weather and fuel moisture conditions, implementation is set for Tuesday, May 20, 2008, with burning continuing over a 3 to 4 day period.....
Benefits of the prescribed burn include promoting forest health, reducing the buildup of flammable vegetation, and protecting the public and firefighters. The project will improve protection fo life and property in the recreational communities of Cow Creek, Leland, and Bumblebee; maintain vital fuelbreaks to slow or halt the spread of wildfire; protect the public investment in conifer tree plantations; and protect water quality and aquatic habitats within Cow, Lily, Leland, and Bumblebee Creeks by reducing the risk of erosion from wildfires.
