Rabies Positive Skunk in West Point

West Point, CA...On June 20, 2020 Animal Services investigated a dog on skunk attack in the 2300 Block of Spink Road in West Point, CA. Three dogs killed the skunk and the owner called to report the incident. The skunk was sent to San Joaquin Public Health Laboratory for rabies testing on June 23, 2020. The test came back positive for rabies. All three dogs were current on their rabies vaccines and received rabies boosters from their veterinarian the same day as the event. The dogs have been placed on a mandatory quarantine as a precaution. If anyone believes their animal(s) may have come in contact with this skunk please contact our office at 209-754-6509.

Please remember to keep your pets’ rabies vaccination up to date. This is vital for the health and wellbeing of your pets and family members. If your animals are not currently vaccinated please contact your veterinarian right away.

We have skunks visiting our place all the time, digging little holes everywhere looking for anything and everything. We feed the dogs inside only, no mention about food being left outside.

    Black with white stripes.
Wonder if anti vaxers have their animals vaccinated?

And these two articles show the difference between vaccinating your animals or not. The dogs got to stay with their owner because their responsible owner got them their shots. It's not just about your pets - children and other household members also run the risk of contracting the virus from an infected pet!

I guess the anti vaxers can't see some correlation between rabies, measles, tuberculosis, and many other treatable diseases.

I'm more worried about the rabid American hating BLM and Antifa than a sick skunk.

I'm not worrying about BLM in Calaveras County.
I worry about the idiot occupying the White House.
Those anti vaxer's kids should be put down for distemper.
Send the bill to their parents.

Rabid skunks are the ones that you see out during the day. Skunks are nocturnal. It doesn't matter if you feed your dog/cats outside during the day. If the skunk is rabid, it is out wondering around and is usually seen during daylight hours
