Dangerous crossing and bad place for a bar
Posted on: 2020-06-27 08:17:03   By: Anonymous

Was it another drunk bar patron? That crossing is notorious for people being hit in the crosswalk. The worst time seemed to be when Cal Trans put 4 lanes through San Andreas. The lanes were put back to 2 because of deaths.

Bud Robinson was crawling drunk after leaving the bar in the sidewalk and was run over years ago. Having lived he came out quite wealthy.

Then there were the two women running drunk across the highway, one the corner bar owner at the time was killed.

There's never a bad place for a bar besides next to a law enforcement building or a school. Right?

On the other hand, there are almost no crosswalks the length of the main drag in San Andreas. And just who is going to walk halfway down the road to cross the street? Every time I pass through, there is a pedestrian in the middle, protected turn lane trying to dart across.

Years ago I was in the Gay Area (I'm not nice) and in some places like schools and high traffic race ways, they had the peds crossings, they push a button and yellow lights flashed in the offset pavement area. I bet they're expensive, but they're set even with the asphalt so if one did need to scrape the road they wouldn't be broken.
Those should be at most school crossing, like at Hwy 4 and Penn Gulch Rd where people coming into town around 50 mph.

Yes, suburbia and cities are willing to pay for safety. Doubtful, though, that the state would put a walk light on that main drag as it's in reality a highway. Can you imagine how the traffic would be backed up in both directions? Murphys got one on the corner of Route 4 and Big Trees Road so perhaps it is possible.
