Six New COVID-19 Cases Identified in Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA.... A Cluster of COVID-19 Cases Identified in Staff at Congregate Care Facility and Updates on Non-Resident Case Cases at Care Facility. The Tuolumne County Public Health Department was notified on June 28th that 6 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at Avalon Care Center in Sonora. Case investigations have been started and all individuals are currently isolating at home.

Public Health is coordinating with Avalon representatives, as well as the California Department of Public Health on the case investigation. Residents and staff have been tested and additional results are pending. Tuolumne County has now tripled the number of identified cases in less than 10 days.

Non-Resident Positive Case Exposures in Tuolumne County
The non-resident case that was identified yesterday, June 27th is isolating at home in their county of residence. The individual was in Tuolumne County for several days for a large group gathering. We were able to identify many of the participants, all of whom are residents of other counties, but we have not been able to confirm we have identified all event participants.

If you attended a group event/campout at River Ranch Campground between June 22nd and June 28th ou should self-quarantine for 14 days from the last date of exposure and get tested no sooner than 3-5 days after exposure. You can call Tuolumne County Public Health’s COVID-19 Call Center at (209) 533-7440 starting Monday for more information.

We have had recent multiple incidences of positive cases participating in various private gatherings, impacting our first responders and healthcare workers. Those essential critical infrastructure workers are necessary to maintain our ability to respond and care for our most vulnerable residents.

It is important for everyone to follow Public Health recommendations to help protect
yourself and your community during the COVID-19 pandemic:
• Avoid gatherings with anyone outside of your household
• Wear a face covering in public
• Practice physical distancing
• Wash your hands frequently
• Do not travel outside of your home community
