California Public Health Officials Warn Against Gathering for Fourth of July Weekend

Sacramento, CA...The California Department of Public Health Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Sonia Angell issued the following statement today warning Californians not to gather with people outside of their immediate households this Fourth of July weekend to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities:

"Traditionally, Fourth of July is a time of gathering to celebrate the freedoms this country offers us.

"This year, however, family gatherings are playing a significant role in the spread of COVID-19. Any time two households mix together, we risk getting each other sick. For some people, especially adults who are older and people with health issues, COVID-19 can have serious and even deadly consequences.

"Any public or private events this weekend that include people who do not live together in the same household should not happen. This includes family get-togethers.

"If you live in a county on the county monitoring list, your county should consider cancelling firework shows. In counties not on the list, municipal fireworks displays may still happen, but to watch them, residents must find ways to watch them from their cars and apart from others. Gatherings around these events should be canceled.

"This Independence Day, let's show our patriotism by protecting one another. Let's stay apart from those who don't live with us, and when we're out, protect one another by wearing a face covering, physically distancing, and washing our hands frequently."

COVID-19 Resources

More than 100 community testing sites also offer free, confidential testing: Find a COVID-19 Testing Site.

For more information about what Californians can do to prevent the spread of COVID-19, visit Coronavirus (COVID-19) in California.

California continues to issue guidance on preparing and protecting California from COVID-19. Consolidated guidance is available on the California Department of Public Health's Guidance web page.

Just a few neighbors nearby and our own household are having a gathering and we are ALL healthy! I have a neighbor who is exempt from wearing a mask since she has breathing problems-a VALID and LEGAL medical excuse and she can't be excluded anywhere especially for her medical appointments. She does NOT have the virus either otherwise she would be quarantined! I myself prefer to wear a mask to protect myself and others. So let's see who gets on this post and agrees or disagrees with me. We also may have our own safe and sane fireworks and just a very simple and fulfilling (food wise) gathering. That's all that is needed with us. I'm sure Mr. Trump and his family and others are doing the same thing-to have a good time and to also take precautions and keep it as a small family gathering. We also need to remind ourselves of the real reason for this holiday. This is about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Sometimes we all have to make sacrifices in our lives too. I see it this way-a lot of our soldiers, sailors, and fly boys gave their lives in the last 200+ years for our freedom etc.. thank you

That's how it starts "we are all healthy"
It only takes one person at the supermarket, gas station, businesses. Just because you wear a mask, or that person next to you does, does not mean the virus can't infect you, or one of your neighbors especially the one who allegedly can't wear a mask. Ignorance on I wear a mask doesnt mean squat with the virus.

I realize that you’re attempting to “speak” (or rather write) in a reasonable tone. I appreciate that, and will attempt to reply in kind.

Because you’re speaking in a tone of apparent reasonableness, which might convince others that your position is harmless, I feel that I must to reply to your VERY DANGEROUS POST.

Having ANY gathering WITH PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR IMMEDIATE HOUSEHOLD this weekend is unreasonable and dangerous, and openly flouts the laws of the country you purport to love so dearly. If you are a true patriot, STAY HOME.

The people of the United States have been warned, time and time again, that ASYMPTOMATIC SPREADERS are giving COVID-19 to people that DO NOT KNOW THEY’RE VULNERABLE.

The person you describe, who might conceivably have some sort of pulmonary, breathing, or other health issues and cannot wear a mask, IS CLEARLY VULNERABLE.

Please reconsider. There are literally HUNDREDS of stories of people just like you who are severely ill or recently dead from this sort of thoughtlessness.

When one has no family nearby and he/she can't afford to go visit them, then your neighbors are like family. We are poor white people and we do the best we can and don't break any laws-just trying to make the best of it in life and take precautions the best we can. BTW, I didn't make this up stating that we tested negative! So it seems like the reactions that I get here seem senseless! It's called "so called experts" telling others what to do in an aggressive manner! If I make a suggestion or say what I do, I don't get pushy and just "move on down the road." BTW, while growing up I was a member of a church that doesn't believe in medicine (to a certain extent) so I always had a "white card" that I would take to school usually in September to waive me from taking any shots. I have been healthy all my life and I have a pretty good immune system and also live healthy. So I say again mind your own business! I will stay out of yours!

For just about all of my 60+ years I have been healthy except for maybe a minor cold and little things like cuts and bruises etc. Just recently-in the last couple of years, I have received shots for flu, pneumonia, shingles and tetanus since I am getting older. Oh by the way, there was one time that I had strep and then got a penicillin shot and wiped that right out in a matter of days when I was about 20. Now tell me something I don't know. I'm getting close to 70 and could probably still whip some of you young whippersnappers with one hand behind my back! This is just a metaphorical statement so don't take this literally! Thank you P.S. At least I'm not protesting and rioting in a large crowd either!

I'm amazed at the way people have let this leftest government (states governed the demorats) control them them. You all wearing the submission masks look scared. Do some research, the CDC is lying about the numbers. Now they're counting the common cold as covid. Nurses and doctors in hospitals are sending in swabs with different material on them and it comes back positive, motor oil, vegetable oil and never used swabs. All come back positive. Unfortunately this is all political. wake up before our country is gone.

Gee, you must be voting for the other guy I guess? No one said there were any travel restrictions from state to state. I went out of the county not long ago for a few days and even had accommodations (with some restrictions of course but thats ok). So lets see what is the result will be of this gathering at Mt. Rushmore. Of course officially no one will know of any positive cases for a couple of weeks and of course then most of the commentors on this will forget about it as well as I. How about all those people at Myrtle Beach S. Carolina. So who is the pot calling the kettle black?

Governor Newsom‘s winery is open in Napa but so are all the other wineries in Napa. The re-opening phase June 5 is when it re-opened and as we know, re-opening is happening county by county based on the rate of new cases. Hopefully people in Napa will continue to abide by the laws in place and keep our numbers low.
