Eleven New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday, August 4, 2020 Calaveras Public Health reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The additional cases include two females and one male between the 0 to 17 years of age, two females and one male between 18 to 49 years of age, and two females and three males between 50-64 years of age. Five cases were reported in District 1, District 3 had one case, District 4 had three cases, and District 5 had two cases. There were no cases reported in District 2.

“Folks should continue basic actions to slow the spread of the virus in Calaveras County - wear a face covering, get tested, wash your hands often, stay home if you are sick, and practice physical distancing,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. “We have to remain vigilant against this virus. Gatherings of any size carries a risk of getting infected with COVID-19, especially when physical distancing cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, people should wear a face mask when are around other people.” said Dr. Kelaita.

To date, Calaveras Public Health has reported 136 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 106 cases have since recovered while 29 cases remain active. There has been one reported death related to COVID-19 in Calaveras County.

The best ways to avoid exposure to the virus are to:
 Stay home if you are sick
 Stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household
 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
 Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth when around others

Calaveras Public Health staff continues to investigate new cases to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individuals. Close contacts may be contacted by the health department, assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness.

Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

 Fever or chills
 Cough
 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
 Fatigue
 Muscle or body aches
 Headache
 New loss of taste or smell
 Sore throat
 Congestion or runny nose
 Nausea or vomiting
 Diarrhea

Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing signs, seek emergency care immediately:
 Trouble breathing
 New confusion or weakness
 Bluish lips or face
 Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
 Inability to wake or stay awake

No-cost testing for COVID-19 is available to anyone who would like to get tested. The OptumServe COVID-19 testing site located at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds is open Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Testing is now available to those age 3 and older. People are highly encouraged to register online. People without Internet access should call (888) 634-1123. To receive information and resources related to COVID-19 visit the Calaveras County COVID-19 website.

Please. There is plenty of evidence about how the disease is transmitted and how to reduce the spread. Stop cherry picking the internet to support your narrow, dangerous, non-medical view.

Be sure to share your medical credentials because those of us who actually work in the profession along with public health would strongly disagree.

Disagree with WHICH post? Please be clear. Working in the medical field I sure hope you were referring to the fact that there is plenty of science to support that masks DO prevent transmission of aerosol infectious air droplets.

Wear a mask! There is more proof to support wearing a mask than not. Even with the common flu. You are the few and pretty soon denied of service or entry.

Yes Dr. Einstein, tell us all how the virus won't spread if you wear a mask. There is nothing that indicates that you won't get the virus if you wear a mask. If you are healthy with a good immune system with or without a mask then your chances of not getting this virus are extremely high. If you have pre-existing conditions and are and old fu*k then you will most likely contract it and possibly die. Do you have any more theories Dr. Einstein?

It does not matter how good your immune system is to a novel virus. You will contract it if exposed.

I have been wearing my mask since this all started in March and I'm grateful cause I'm still healthy and when I come home I wash my hands with sanitizer. I also observe the 6 foot distancing rule in stores and post office, etc. I stay home most of the time and I live alone except for folks who live in the upstairs duplex. In fact all of us here in the duplex are all healthy as well as my other few neighbors I have contact with sometimes. They all heed to the guidelines also! So not only have I protected myself, but I also thought of others. I notice that many people like you (whoever you are) are all part of a "defiant society" and if you end up suffering from this virus, then thats your bad! You did it to yourselves because you refuse to adhere to any suggestions (subtle commands). When I know that a suggestion has strong validity and true facts to back it up, then I heed to that suggestion! thank you

By the way , The Red Rider, and the Schwann take make awesome gifts for little boy’s. Girls, little dresses, and baby dolls will be popular this year!

Did you know The Red Rider was put on the market by a girl? History tells us she wanted to get even with boy’s that starred at her too much. The idea was that they, the boy’s would shoot their eye out. I didn’t shoot my eye out because I always wore my LA Rams helmet, on backwards

Who brought up the LA Rams? I saw my first Rams game in 1968, just after the Watts riots. Sat so high up I couldn’t get a very good grasp on what was happening. Seems like we haven’t moved to far concerning rioting, could never figure out why you would burn your own neighborhood, guess it was convenient.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is ready to get back on the practice field after a false-positive COVID-19 test landed him on the team’s reserve list.

After receiving a positive test on Saturday, Stafford was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but only three days later, the team’s offensive leader is back.

In a team statement, the Lions announced, “We have removed Matthew Stafford from the COVID-IR list and onto the Active Roster. As a result of a False-Positive test result, he was forced due to NFL/NFLPA protocols to sit out until he received two negative tests. His testing sequence for the Pre-Entry period was: negative, negative, False-Positive. The next three tests were all negative.”

“To be clear, Matthew does NOT have COVID-19 and never has had COVID-19 and the test in question was a False-Positive,” the statement continued. “Also, all of Matthew’s family have been tested and everyone is negative.”

Many NFL players, coaches and staff have voiced concerns about false-positives messing up the season and this will surely add to the skepticism regarding testing.

“It’s one of those things that are going to be questionable for sure,” Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis said. “Because, yeah, this might be the first one that we’ve heard about but I’m sure there’s more that are going to happen. Hopefully they come up with a better way or continue to work on the way that we’re doing it to test everybody and I’m confident that everything will work out.”

According to NFL guidelines, “Players who test positive for the novel coronavirus but are asymptomatic can return once five days have passed from their initial positive test so long as they post consecutive negative tests at least 24 hours apart. Symptomatic players who test positive for COVID-19 can return as soon as 10 days after their symptoms first appeared, provided their return is cleared by team doctors.”

The NFL season is scheduled to begin on September 10.

If you trump fans believe that social distancing and masks don’t reduce the spread of the virus......hold a great big trump fund raiser at your place, 5 dollars for all the beer you can drink, free hugs from your ladies and kisses from you, or the other way around. Say there will be plenty of singing and dancing. Do it in your home, or rent a hall. Advertise it as a mask free beer party to raise money for trump and prove what macho freedom fighters you are. Then just stay the hell away from the rest of the responsible citizens in this county.

Yep, that’s what’s happening all summer! Survival of the smartest. (Mask wearers) Survival of the fittest has now taken a new turn! Go ahead and hold those Trump rallies. In fact, have as many as you want! No masks? Personal freedom? Yes, until you need healthcare services that affect the rest of us. Or you walk into the grocery store and stand next to me and my family without a mask.
