32 Year Old Sonora Man Arrested for Thefts at White Pines Park

Arnold, CA...The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the many citizens who provided information regarding this investigation. Due to the information provided by citizens and the evidence collected during the initial investigation, deputies were able to arrest Matthew Dewayne Williams (32 years old, Sonora, CA).

On Thursday August 6th at about 6:00 PM deputies located and arrested Williams in the Big Trees Shopping Center (Arnold, CA) while he was riding in a vehicle. While searching Williams prior to transporting him to jail deputies located a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine, a baggie of suspected heroin and a glass smoking pipe. Suspect Williams was transported and booked into jail with a bail of $50,000.00.

After arresting Williams, deputies contacted the driver of the vehicle suspect Joshua Michael Grimes (35 years old, Arnold, CA). A records check of Grimes revealed a misdemeanor traffic warrant issued by the Tuolumne County Superior Court. Deputies placed Grimes under arrest. While searching Grimes’ vehicle deputies also located a .22 caliber handgun and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition. Upon further inspection of the weapon, deputies noticed the serial numbers were purposely altered rendering them unreadable. Deputies arrested Grimes for 23900 PC possession of a firearm with altered identification markings (Felony) and the warrant. He was booked with a bail of $100,000.00.

Earlier Release...Burglary Suspect Caught on Security Camera (White Pines, CA)

On Friday, July 31st, 2020, at about 2:00 PM, deputies were dispatched to White Pines Park for a report of a burglary to a storage container. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a suspect cut the lock of a container sometime during the night of Thursday, July 30th. Once inside, the suspect stole a white and orange STIHL chainsaw along with other smaller items.

While canvassing the area for usable evidence, deputies located security camera footage that contained an image of a possible suspect. Please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 209-754-6500 or the anonymous tip line at 209-754-6030 if you know this person.
