McClintock’s got to go. What a swamp-creature.

The state of the county is not good at all. A dysfunctional board of supervisors without vision, primarily because each represents a unique district that cannot agree for the greater good. Lack of quality medical care other than clinics and a hospital that will ship you elsewhere for something serious, a population that does not take their own everyday health care seriously and smoke and drink too much yet expecting care to be provided to them for cancer and more when they cannot afford to pay. A Sheriff's Department that takes a big chunk of the budget and spends its time playing whack a mole with illegal growers when we could have benefited from the tax revenue of licensed growers who've moved on to accommodating communities and state licensing. Then there's the lack of jobs on which one can afford to build a life and raise a family. Our sons and daughters who move away to pursue higher education or more specialized training seldom return. Meanwhile, many of our more rural communities say no new taxes (i.e., unwilling to pay to maintain San Andreas fire and emergency services) yet still expect the money to be found. It's like we're stuck in 1950s Mayberry with modern problems and no money to fix.

It's the threesome. They have got to learn to reach across the aisle. Why does Merita C. keep rewarding her cronies to the detriment of everyone else, while crowing Unity? Soon there will be a grower's daughter on the Board who forgot to reveal that little nugget.

If you're making a fortune, it's by selling illegally. Guns, aggressive dogs, cash.

This county sucks, there is no opportunity here for a good life unless you're retired. No jobs and nothing but old people.

Honestly, not even for retirees who need quality medical care or just looking for a preventative model, along with some everyday amenities like shopping. A whole lot of those cabins and homes being sold on the upper Route 4 corridor are 70 somethings taking advantage of a sellers' market but also want a bit more in life. There are many other small communities with a rural flair that can offer that outside of Calaveras.

many of these folks moving here are too old and ill equipped to live in these parts. Here your pretty much on your own. Most of them have never run a chain saw, put up fence, killed a rattle snake or even lived without a primary care Doctor. Welcome to the foothills.

The closest they can come to living a self sustainable life is buying a flannel shirt, but then still wear shorts and flip flops in winter.

They certainly are not an asset to our small roll up your sleeves and get to work small towns. Their extravagant wants and needs burden the rest of us who have actual country life skills and do not need as many county/state nannies added to the tax roles.

Are you serious? 70? Time to move in with children, find assisted living or retirement home.

If you are here for the slower country life and don't seek to change it you are an asset.

If you are just here to just consume, profit, use, change and overpopulate you are a debit.

If you don't like it, can you get out and help our young people to arm themselves with knowledge and skills to succeed? No one learns that without help.
