Retail Sales Have Recovered & Now Running Above Pre Covid-19 2019 Numbers

Washington, DC...The U.S. Census Bureau announced the following advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for September 2020: Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for September 2020, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $549.3 billion, an increase of 1.9 percent (± 0.5 percent) from the previous month, and 5.4 percent (± 0.7 percent) above September 2019. Total sales for the July 2020 through September 2020 period were up 3.6 percent (± 0.5 percent) from the same period a year ago. The July 2020 to August 2020 percent change was unrevised at up 0.6 percent (± 0.2 percent). Retail trade sales were up 1.9 percent (± 0.5 percent) from August 2020, and 8.2 percent (± 0.7 percent) above last year. Nonstore retailers were up 23.8 percent (± 1.6 percent) from September 2019, while building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers were up 19.1 percent (± 2.1 percent) from last year.

General Information
The October 2020 Advance Monthly Retail report is scheduled for release on November 17, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. EST. View the full schedule in the Economic Briefing Room: . The full text and tables of this release can be found at .

The advance estimates are based on a subsample of the Census Bureau’s full retail and food services sample. A stratified random sampling method is used to select approximately 5,500 retail and food services firms whose sales are then weighted and benchmarked to represent the complete universe of over three million retail and food services firms.

Survey Description
The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the Advance Monthly Retail Trade and Food Services Survey to provide an early estimate of monthly sales by kind of business for retail and food service firms located in the United States. Each month, questionnaires are mailed to a probability sample of approximately 5,500 employer firms selected from the larger Monthly Retail Trade Survey. Advance sales estimates are computed using a link relative estimator. For each detailed industry, we compute a ratio of current-toprevious month weighted sales using data from units for which we have obtained usable responses for both the current and previous month. For each detailed industry, the advance total sales estimates for the current month is computed by multiplying this ratio by the preliminary sales estimate for the previous month (derived from the larger MRTS) at the appropriate industry level. Total estimates for broader industries are computed as the sum of the detailed industry estimates. The link relative estimate is used because imputation is not performed for most nonrespondents in MARTS. For a limited number of nonresponding companies that have influential effects on the estimates, sales may be estimated based on historical performance of that company. The monthly estimates are benchmarked to the annual survey estimates from the Annual Retail Trade Survey once available. The estimates are adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading day differences. Additional information on MARTS and MRTS can be found on the Census Bureau website at: .

The economic data graph showing consumer buying as back to normal is a fraud.
With tens of millions unemployed the consumers are not buying.
dump has so screwed up our agencies reporting all kinds of data, none can be trusted.
dump is a con, his BS lies are just that.
He has ordered the CDC and other health agencies recently not to report Covid data.
He says Covid is winding down, when the states are reporting cases back to their highest levels ICU s are overflowing.

You can not trust any data from this corrupted government.

Wake up.

    From the US Census Bureau.
Wilbur Ross heads this. He cut the census short, it is now over, despite the need for more time due to the epidemic.
The Republican Supreme Court ruled Ross can shut the census down despite it being 25% incomplete.
    Thanks Republicans.
This is how Congressional districts get drawn. This is a naked power grab by the Republicans.

It's a power grab by the Republicans? I did not think of that.
Which power grab would be worse, this one by the Republicans, or the one by the Democrats, where they spied on another party running for the presidency using the FBI, making up a fake Collusion charge, with the obama/ Biden ticket on it, and since before Trump even won, the democrats were trying to remove our elected president from office? AND for the ENTIRE time in office Dems have been trying to overthrow our elected President and his administration. Hmmm...which power grab, using your bigoted thinking, seems worse?
You sure sound scared grasping for excuses. According to the mainstream media and all of these polls you should be laughing all the way to the WH
Didn't you see Joe's town hall meeting last night, where again, Joe had these nice, easy softball questions, and not one question about his son and the new leak of the Ukraine businessman that Hunter set up to meet Daddy after Joe has said multiple times he never met him, because that would of been illegal?
So relax, Joe's got it made in the shade, why are you sounding so scared for?

Your argument doesn’t make sense. If the Democrats have been trying to steal power this whole time, including during the last election, then they are so worthless and inept that you don’t need to worry about them at all.

The Republican power grab is actually happening, so maybe you should turn your nose for corruption at the Republicans, they stink!

Oh, so you believe everything the mainstream media prints, and since they rarely print anything bad about democrats and their corruption you're happy than a tick buried in a dog's neck.
You believed the FBI and Russian Collusion...well until you heard there was no collision.
You believed Judge Brett Kavanaugh was guilty of all charges of attempted rape and other hideous allegations, but not when those allegations were against Biden of course.
You say Trump used the presidency for personal gain, but Biden hasn't for him, or his friends or helping his son, Hunter.
You say Trump has ethics violations, but Biden or Harris, who by the way started her career by spreading her legs for Willie Brown, and he knowingly acknowledged it all.
You say he lied about his personal dealings with Russia ( innocent) but Biden said he's never talked business with his son EVER, even though Hunter had flew with him to China and the Ukraine ( why did the Russian mayor wire Hunter 3.5 million dollars, just because?) and the Ukraine businessman thanked Hunter for the meeting with Dad that Joe said, never happened? Except two days ago his response team said, well it's not logged down anywhere but it might of happened.
You say Trump urged a foreign leader to help him smear his political opponent, looks to me Trump asked what happened, and he wasn't convicted there either.
There's more but company is here.
So either your dumb of bigoted or both? You tell us.

It's not rocket science. Things have been shut down for 8 months.
Consumers are starting to buy things other than essential goods.
    Increase is inevitable.
How about making a comparison to this same buying one year ago.

If truth hit you in the face you wouldn’t believe it! Go outside and take a look at how wonderful it is to live here, not in some major s hole in California, how fortunate you are to be an AMERICAN, you obviously live in hate, fear, and whatever! Your life is miserable, maybe open your Bible and start reading through the New Testament, it has a lot of good news!

No argument - our area is beautiful but there is hate, prejudice and intolerance here just below the surface. Just spend a little time reading under the comments under various articles on the Pine Tree.

How many do you know that are out shopping and spending as before? This is more fraud on the part of appointed Trump puppets. Or it may be a function of the wealthier who got the bigger breaks returning to their lifestyles. Either way, it hardly is the reality of most Foothills folks.

Blame Nasty Nancy if you're in fire need. Dod you see that political Ad where Nancy was in her home, next to her twin, $2400 a piece side by side refrigerator stocked with expensive ice cream? She was all giddy, showing it all off saying how much she loved her expensive ice cream, and then it cuts to someone's little frig with hardly anything in it, and than other people say they're starving.
Nancy was referred as, Nancy Antoinette
I'll see if I can find it.
PS More people blame Nancy for not getting the check
