38 Year Old Woman Arrested on Attempted Kidnapping, Resisting Arrest & More

Sonora, CA...On 11/16/2020 at about 9 A.M., our office received a call that a female was attempting to climb over the fence at a local pre-school. The staff of the pre-school were able to put the school on lockdown prior to our arrival. When the first Officer arrived on scene, he located 38-year-old transient, Stephanie Grimaldi. Grimaldi refused to follow the commands of the Officer, and a struggle ensued. During the confrontation, Grimaldi attempted to take the Officer’s firearm. Grimaldi was eventually taken into custody. The officer was later treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

During the subsequent investigation, it was learned that Grimaldi was attempting to coax the children from the playground, and was attempting to climb the fence to get to them. Grimaldi was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for attempted kidnapping, resisting arrest with violence, attempting to take a police officer’s firearm, interfering with radio transmissions, false ID to a police officer, and prowling. Grimaldi’s bail was set at $50,000.
Our department would like to commend the quick thinking of the faculty of the pre-school. This is yet another example of how effective continuous training for these types of scenarios can be.
