Calaveras County Moves to Purple Tier, Limited Stay at Home Order in Place, Outdoor Operations Only for Many Businesses! (Updated)

San Andreas, CA...Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, the state moved Calaveras County into purple (widespread risk level), the state’s most restrictive tier. Changes to the tier system occur when immediate action is needed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Counties are required to put into place any sector changes the day following the tier announcement. The goal is to make sure patients can get the access to care they need and prevent hospitals from being overrun. This means that several non-essential indoor businesses must close. Calaveras Public Health urges caution and encourages people to take the necessary steps to prevent being exposed to the virus and help the county continue to lower its risk level.

The purple tier impacts many local businesses that will now have to close indoor business operations or reduce capacity. As of now, businesses that can operate outdoors only with modifications, include:
 Gyms and fitness centers
 Movie theaters
 Museums
 Places of worship
 Restaurants
 Wineries and tasting rooms

Bars, breweries, and distilleries must close.

To learn more about how this change in tiers impacts businesses and activities in Calaveras County please view the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy to find specific business information and the county’s latest status.

As of November 21, 2020, it is required that all non-essential work and activities stop between 10PM and 5AM in counties in the widespread (purple) tier. Read more about the limited stay at home order. The stay at home order is effective through at least December 21. Limiting social activities and gatherings of people not within the same household will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 into Calaveras communities.

Everyone is at risk for COVID-19 and should take precautions to avoid getting exposed to the virus. Older adults and people with underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness and death from COVID-19. This means that they may be hospitalized, require a ventilator to help them breathe, or may even be fatal. COVID-19 can be very serious and Calaveras Public Health asks that you follow the safety guidelines.

During the holidays, Calaveras Public Health urges the public to remain cautious. The safest way to gather during the holidays is to spend time with people in the same household and gather virtually with family and friends who aren’t from your household. To keep yourself and your loved ones safe, follow the Guidelines for Gatherings and tips for a healthier holiday season. Traveling to see friends and family during the holidays could increase your risk of infection and further the spread of COVID-19 in your community. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) strongly recommends:
 Californians stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel
 Anyone arriving into California should voluntarily self-quarantine for 14 days. For complete details and requirements, read CDPH’s Travel Advisory.

No-cost testing for COVID-19 is available at the OptumServe COVID-19 testing site in Sonora. The site is located at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, Blake Elliot Building (Creekside), 220 Southgate Drive, Sonora, CA 95370. The OptumServe site is now open 7 days a week. If you would like to be tested for COVID-19 please register at www.lhi.care/covidtesting or call (888) 634-1123.

Testing for COVID-19 is advised, especially:
 People who have symptoms of COVID-19
 People who have had close contact with someone that is confirmed to have COVID-19
 People who have been asked or referred to get tested by their healthcare provider

Take action to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The best ways to avoid exposure to COVID-19 are to:
 Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth in public places and anywhere you will be around people who do not live with you, including close friends and family.
 Wash your hands often. Use soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
 Stay at least 6 feet away from other people.
 Stay home if you are sick.

Symptoms can appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. The symptoms of COVID-19 include:
 Fever or chills
 Cough
 Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
 Fatigue
 Muscle or body aches
 Headache
 New loss of taste or smell
 Sore throat
 Congestion or runny nose
 Nausea or vomiting
 Diarrhea

A person who has tested positive with COVID-19 may not have all or any of these symptoms. A person who has tested positive but does not have any symptoms is considered asymptomatic and can still pass on the virus to others while they are infectious.

Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing signs, seek emergency care immediately:
 Trouble breathing
 New confusion or weakness
 Bluish lips or face
 Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
 Inability to wake or stay awake

Calaveras Public Health asks the public to be aware of scams. A contact tracer will never ask for your social security number, bank account number, or credit card information. Our contact tracers work for Calaveras Public Health. Contact tracers help contact people who have COVID-19 to track symptoms and make sure to keep our community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Calaveras Public Health encourages that all people 6 months and older get their yearly flu vaccine. While getting the flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, it is shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death. Please speak with your local medical provider or pharmacist for flu vaccine.

To receive information and resources related to COVID-19 visit the Calaveras County COVID-19 website.

I would rather everyone just accept there will be death from this covid crap...unfortunately!! Stop the opinions. Wear a mask, wash your hands, avoid dumb asses if you go out.

You are the type that is the problem with society today, remember the phrase "MYOB?". Do it, live it, learn it. You are prob as you say "idiot" that drives with a mask on in their car.

The inly reason china virus is so well know and people are "scared of" is cause of the propaganda push to demonize it. You don't or never heard much of the dreaded flu season in the past did ya? If you are in such fear, tend to yourself, I am not responsible for you and you are not for me. Peace buddy!

You don't know anything about the people your judging, yet you judge anyways. Would you hold up to your own scrutiny? I doubt it. Mind your own business and take care of yourself.

All businesses are essential

When you have to earn a paycheck to feed your family and pay your rent or mortgage its considered essential! The only thing a lockdown does is put businesses out of business so you can depend on the government....so we all suffer while big box stores stay open! Really! COVID IS NOT DISAPPEARING!!! HOWEVER THE ECONOMY IS....! ALL JOBS ARE ESSENTIAL! Tell the governor/government to give up his/their paychecks!

Don't make assumptions about the first commentator. I happen to be Republican. This thing is REAL. Have you ever noticed that a lot of folks are taking this in stride and being innovative (like a Plan B)? They start their own home-based businesses like "mail order" online type of stuff. Example: The article a while back about the lady in San Andreas who started her own mask-making business. C'mon folks-be creative and think of an innovative way to start something in your own home-something that no one else has thought of and still get your bills paid. Be grateful that you can do that and have everything still up and running with a roof over your heads! Besides Cottage industries have not only been around for eons but will be prolific in the future too. What do you think the $1200 was for? That is for all of us and it's up to us how we want to invest it in-maybe start-up funds for a small business at home. Maybe we all need to eat tuna casserole or something else economical for food. We all need to make sacrifices.
Be creative at home with the cooking even-especially with all the spare time that we all have now. You can cook great stuff from scratch even and come out with some great dishes at a low cost. Always think of Plan B and have the funds for that "rainy day." Our country survived the Depression and the big war of WW2. It seems like some folks just want to live in "gloom and doom" during this time with a negative attitude about the whole thing. I don't like this just as well as you. I have to think about surviving on a day to day basis-one day at a time. Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery! I don't have much, but I still keep my head up! I imagine Bear Valley /Mt. Reba may have to close and then maybe not since they're in Alpine County just across the line (not sure what their status is now). I think some folks think this is a big joke. I got news for you-it's NOT!

Don't even get me started on how they swallow the BLM crap wholeheartedly even knowing that its led by socialist and doesn't really help anyone! Democrats also watch CNN and actually think that's the whole story even when you can easily do a google search and find the entire story and find its been edited to suit CNN's hatred campaign. The true problem is the lack of respect for the fact we all have our own opinions from our own individual paths our lives have taken us. For you or any other democrat to expect that one way is the right way for everyone just shows how short sighted they have become. Hatred and intolerance is all I see from the democrats and why the republicans are now fighting back.

Just a matter of time before the entire country is purple and on lockdown. Mostly because medical experts were fighting a losing battle trying to "educate" Americans with a culture of independence. Other countries whose COVID prevention programs are working involved identifying cases early, then tracing contacts and putting those at risk or affected under quarantine, not just insisting voluntarily wearing masks and staying home. After the Thanksgiving holiday, the surge will be incredible, sadly.

What?! So republicans caused covid? Seems pretty ridiculous to me, how do explain the covid cases in the rest of the world? Still republicans? And I'm quite certain that democrats are out working, shopping and living the same as republicans. You assume all republicans don't wear masks which is not true. You assume a mask can save people from catching covid, also untrue (look it up). I'm pretty sure your just a scared, bitter, unhappy, bully, democrat looking for a scapegoat. Start with some logical facts for your next scapegoat.

Another two weeks and we'll all be looking more like slate black than purple. Between the next spike and seasonal flu, medical resources will be stretched and hospitals full. Please stay home as much as you are able, take precautions and take care of your own because it's going to be a very difficult winter. Signed, the mom of an ER doctor whose hospital rooms are nearly full now in CA.

Looking at Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne:
Tuolumne has highest adjusted case rate, then Calaveras, then Amador. That's the order they will go to purple too. And that's the order schools were reopened. Tuolumne started school at the normal time, Calaveras a little later, and then Amador 2 weeks ago.
School always spreads viruses around, why would this virus be different?

If these Idiot Flatlanders would stay in the valley and the Bay Area then Calaveras County would not be in the purple tier. Thousands of visitors are in this area and spreading the virus among each other. If you don't live here full time then keep your filthy ass in our own neighborhood were it belongs. There is no control for these people and most of them are socially gathering with family members without masks. My neighbors just showed up on Thanksgiving and the family members live in different households with none of them wearing masks to protect each other. This is what kind of Idiots that we have in this area and nothing is going to change unless these ass holes change their behavior.

“Change their behavior,” once Biden got elected, lots of us have changed our behavior. Just like the Democrats did when trump was elected. What goes around comes around. Get ready, around January 20th let’s see how this unfolds. Want lebrals, you got it! Waste of words, bottom line.

This is why the United States has a Pandemic. It is the refusal of ass hole Americans who refuse to comply to the CDC and yes this includes the ass hole Demorats.

All of these and more affect each of us as well. Who deemed you judge and jury. This is the problem with democrats, even though you are undeclared you have the same mentality, you believe you are above others and need to judge or cancel etc. Its a slippery slope and one day you will be the one being judged, then you will hope someone looks deeper for your sake, unlike what you are doing for others.

Yeah its all the flatlanders. Go to Big Trees during the week at night, 33% people could give a *bleep* about masks. This weekend I rode through the campground and at least 1million in motor home parking and camping at the interface. Rode through a group ride of 100 riders, stopped taking a break. Masks, yeah right. I just don't get near you people and unless forced at the store. FU flat landers and locals who are too cool to where masks. I could give a *bleep* who you voted for.

Well, then it needs to be said....
Thank you to the sheriff's offices in both counties for deciding not to enforce the mandates that the governor required to try and keep us safe. That non-compliance attitude, which was political from the start (hurt feelings from "defund" comments), propelled the behavior that sent the virus spiraling!

Blame the Hotel, blame all the BA peeps, but I see it much bigger than that.
And don't tell me it is "personal responsibility". This virus is NOT personal! It is highly contagious and MUCH more deadly than the "flu" (Johns-Hopkins says 10 times the mortality rate). If you could contain it just to yourself, then who would care if you wore a mask? It would be "survival of the fittest (smartest)", but sadly, that is not the case.

Enjoy having overwhelmed hospitals that can't help a car wreck, or a heart attack, or anything.

Let's do some quick math. 4 million new cases of Covid-19 in the US in November. If approximately 12% will need hospitalizations, that's 480,000 people who will need a hospital.

According to the American Hospital association there are 924,107 staffed beds in the US. 91,650 people are currently in the hospital with covid.

And if 2% of cases die, that's 80,000 deaths, just from current November cases.

El Paso ran out of morgue trucks yesterday. Just let that sink in.

There's not to much to add to your ignorance and denial that hasn't been said above or below except one knows when they have the seasonal flu and stays home to get better. Lots of asymptomatic spreaders out there and not wearing a mask can make others ill, even kill. To not take precautions is just plain selfish.

Yeah, all those dead, and positive cases are made up numbers.
Go ask the medical personnel in any urban area whether the numbers are real.
Do a recount of Trump's votes and then move to South Dakota. Their governor will welcome you with open arms and a kiss on the lips.
