Amador COVID-19 Surge Continues With 149 New Cases

Amador County, CA – Amador County Public Health reports 149 new cases of COVID-19 since last Tuesday’s update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 1,213. The new cases include 69 males and 80 females, 8 children under the age of 18, 73 aged 18-49, 39 aged 50-64, 29 over 65 years of age; 50 residing in Ione, 38 living in Jackson, 13 living in Pine Grove, 8 in Pioneer, 11 in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 24 residing in Sutter Creek/Amador City, and 5 in Volcano. Twenty-three cases, including Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) inmates, are currently hospitalized.

Amador County continues COVID-19 vaccinations within the Phase 1a designation. Phase 1a includes
healthcare workers, first responders, and community outreach workers that care for vulnerable populations. The initial supply of vaccine is very limited. Amador County facilities are participating in the Long-Term Care Pharmacy Partnership. This program began vaccinating local skilled nursing facility residents and staff on December 31, 2020. The vaccine is administered in phases according to risk and following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) vaccine plans. As more vaccine becomes available, additional priority groups will be offered the vaccine as Amador moves through the tiers of the allocation guidelines. The next phase, Phase 1b, will include critical infrastructure workers, elementary, middle school and high school teachers and staff, childcare providers, and individuals 75 years and older. Visit California’s Vaccinate All 58 website for more details.

The State of California Department of Industrial Relations updated their COVID-19 Infection Prevention
Requirements (AB 685). This law now requires employers to notify all employees who were at a worksite
of all potential exposures to COVID-19 and notify the local public health department of outbreaks.
Amador employers may access reporting workplace COVID outbreak documentation on the Amador COVID-19 webpage: Workplace Outbreak Reporting. For more information on workplace safety, health regulations, and steps employers are required to take to protect workers visit the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Guidance and Resources webpage.

Local cases and hospital admissions continue to rise. Older adults and those with underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness and death. Practice consistent prevention measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19: wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and ensure frequent hand hygiene. Avoid mixing with others outside your household. Persons over age 65 and those with chronic health conditions that put them at higher risk for severe COVID-19 are encouraged to stay home as much as possible. Stay home if you are sick even with mild symptoms.

To view current Amador County COVID-19 statistics, please visit the Amador COVID-19 website: https://www.amadorgov.org/services/covid-19. Mule Creek State Prison inmate cases are not included in the Amador County COVID-19 totals.
