Passport Weekend Continues Through Sunday!

Calaveras County, CA....The 12th annual Passport “Wine” Weekend sponsored by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance (CWA) will take place June 20-22, 2008. Please join our 19 member participating wineries/ 21 tasting rooms in Calaveras County for a special weekend of food, music, sales and of course award winning wines! Participants are issued “passports” that are stamped at each of the wineries visited, and are all entered in drawings for some fun prizes. Each passport holder has access to special wine tastings, gourmet appetizers, and special wine discounts....

All participants must be 21 years or older, designated drivers are encouraged and given special buttons and receive free non-alcoholic beverages.

The unique event offers an ideal way for new area visitors to become familiar with Calaveras County wineries as each winery showcases their different personalities and award winning wines.

New for 2008, Saturday only and Sunday only passports will be offered to allow one-day visitors the opportunity to join the wine tasting festivities and discover Calaveras Wines. The cost for the 3-day passport will remain the same as the 2 previous years, $60.00, and the new 1-day, passports will be available for $40.00.

Another new element in the 2008 Calaveras Passport Weekend is a Friday night reception in Murphys Community Park! However, the change does not end with the new night – the scope of the evening celebration is being expanded to make it a “mini-Passport” event on its own. Beginning with this year’s Passport, the reception in the park is showcasing the unique diversity of the Calaveras growing region.

“Tour the World of Calaveras.” The park will be divided into five “regions” (Spain, Italy, France’s Rhone Valley, France “Majoris” and California). In each of these regions, you will have the opportunity to taste wines made from grapes with their origins in those “regions”. Each region will showcase corresponding cuisine. Admission to this event is included with the price of a passport, or may be purchased separately for only $25.00.
