Calaveras County Sheriffs Office Launches Security Camera Registration Program

San Andreas, CA...When crimes occur, the solvability factor greatly increases if surveillance footage captures anything useful to further the investigation. From a missing child to burglary suspects, security footage is a primary item of evidence sought-out by deputies and investigators. In some circumstances, the need for rapid collection is paramount.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has an existing database that lists the location and vantage point of security cameras and would like to continue adding surveillance cameras in our community. As crimes occur, deputies can reach out to residents and/or businesses in the area where that crime occurred to determine if their security system captured any information that may help solve the crime. If so, the deputies will make arrangements to record or capture the images. Deputies will not have remote access to the cameras. It simply lets the Sheriff's Office know you have surveillance cameras.

Example: A deputy is dispatched to a report of a residential burglary. During the investigation, the deputy can query the database to see if there are any security cameras in the area that could have captured the suspect, suspect vehicle or other useful information. If so, the deputy will contact the owners of the cameras to make arrangements to view the footage. Thus, reducing the investigation time.

Please complete the form if you are interested in participating in this Community-Sheriff partnership. There is no fee to participate in the program and participation is voluntary. By working smarter we can reduce the amount of time searching for evidence and increase the time looking for those responsible.

Interested persons should contact Sgt. Greg Stark (209) 754-6500 for more information or go to the Sheriff’s website https://forms.calaverasgov.us/ Sheriffs-Office/Community-Camera-Cooperative to access and complete the form.

Trojan Horse

I smell a Trojan Horse. This could be one of those scenarios where everything can and will be used against the camera owner, in a court of law. Some counties and their leos do nothing but pluck low-hanging fruit, Calaveras has a long history of this behaviour and it should be expected to continue this way. Just a little healthy scepticism from an observent citizen.

I notice from your spelling that you're possibly from Canada (behaviour)? How long have you lived in Calaveras County? Our local LE's would never pull off anything like that! In fact to prove what the whole transparency ideology is all about I will even invite any LE person or even the FBI to come over and have coffee with me; hence, we'll get to all know one another. I don't have anything to hide.

We all need to watch out for our fellow neighbors-as we few neighbors do right in our own neighborhood. We watch out for anything or anybody suspicious-day or night or whatever! We don't all live in a 'high dollar' neighborhood, but we still get some strange folks either driving or walking through here especially if they look suspicious. They could be fugitives or tweakers or whatever, but we're always on the lookout. I 'ID' everything on our property from small appliances to things like air compressors and I have a special code for that. We also have motion lights and a good watch dog and he's also fenced in. It wouldn't hurt to have something extra like a camera either.

It would seem this would help in an investigation and save time. We had a hit and run causing lots of damage to a neighbor's property once. The officer noted we had a security cam and asked to borrow the card inside. Unfortunately, he never returned it though promised.

Those who are making snide remarks towards SRS etc., it just shows how immature they are. He has a lot of good things to say, has a lot of knowledge of things (for his age especially) makes sense (compared to others on these articles), and to the point. I suggest that they take heed to his words of wisdom and maybe they'll learn something!
