Threatening Bear in Meyers Residence Prompts Warning to be Bear Wise

Meyers, CA...On June 24th, 2021 at 10:39 PM, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bear threat at a residence in Meyers. A citizen reported that they were attacked by a bear inside of the residence and that they had to shoot the bear with a firearm out of self-defense. The citizen indicated that the bear was bleeding and had fled the residence.

Deputies arrived and were unable to locate the bear. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified of the incident and the last known location of the bear. On June 25th, 2021 during the morning hours, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife located the gravely wounded bear and euthanized it. An investigation has determined that no criminal activity had occurred.

We encourage all citizens to familiarize themselves with safety tips for bear encounters. We have included a helpful link below. We have no further information to release at this time.

Terrible to see the idiots at Pope Beach in Tahoe staying in the water (one family with a Golden Retriever) to get up close and personal with the mama bear and her three cubs there. Some people are so disconnected from nature, they just don't get it.

So true. An intelligent person would have been slowly getting out for their own safety.

Just another wildlife area covered in people that should not even be there. Just like the National Parks having to limit numbers and make reservations. Very sad how we have ignored that our populations are out of control and tipping the Earth into our own demise.

Just too many people and most are ignorant. But there is hope. China has and is doing a good reducing the world population with their man made population extinction plan.
