Amador COVID-19 Update

Amador County, CA... Amador County Public Health reports 13 more cases of COVID-19 since last Tuesday’s update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 1,851. The new cases include 8 males and 5 females, 1 child under the age of 18, 1 aged 18-49, 2 aged 50-64, 9 age 65 and above; 4 living in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 5 in Pioneer, 2 living in Pine Grove, and 2 residing in Sutter Creek/Amador City. Of those, 1 Amador resident required hospitalization.

Over the last week, Public Health has been notified of breakthrough cases of COVID-19 in fully vaccinated individuals and is investigating for a variant strain of the virus. Most breakthrough cases are mild, and the risk of hospitalization and death is very low for those fully vaccinated. Contact tracing has established a linkage to out-of-state travel.

Amador Public Health is offering COVID-19 vaccine at pop-up outreach clinics. Tomorrow, June 30, 2021, an outreach clinic is scheduled at the Camanche Lake Community Center from 11 am to 2 pm, offering Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine. On Friday, July 2, 2021, another outreach clinic with Janssen vaccine will be offered at Young’s Payless IGA Market in Pioneer from noon to 4 pm. Visit the Amador Vaccine Information website for future clinics. Homebound individuals may schedule a nurse home-visit vaccination appointment by calling Amador Public Health at (209) 223-6407.

Over 33,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Amador residents to date. At least 61% of eligible Amador County residents, age 12 and over, have had at least one dose of vaccine and over 15,000 are fully vaccinated. If you missed your second dose appointment there are multiple options for COVID-19 vaccination within the county and surrounding areas. To find a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at nearby pharmacies, visit the Vaccines.gov website. The map is searchable by vaccine brand and zip code. Jackson CVS, Safeway, Walgreens, and Walmart pharmacies are all offering COVID19 vaccine by appointment. Vaccine appointments are scheduled via their respective websites. Residents may also reach out to their health care provider to inquire if vaccine is available within their health care system.

Amador County residents and visitors are encouraged to do their part in order to stay safe and stay open. Stay home if you feel sick. Everyone, even fully vaccinated individuals, should isolate and be tested if exhibiting symptoms. The COVID-19 vaccines are effective in preventing serious illness and hospitalization. Unvaccinated persons are more likely to become infected and spread the virus. Vaccines continue to be the most effective way to return safely to normal activities.
