Major Injuries to Motorcyclist in Collision on Hwy 49

Angels Camp CA...On 7-27-2021, at approximately 1315 hours, P1 attempted to pass a motor home to the right, through a paved pull out, on SR-49 south of Cosgrave Road. An Arnold man was unable to maintain his motorcycle on the paved surface and road into the gravel. He lost control of his motorcycle which landed on its left side. He was ejected and received major injuries. The rider was transported to Modesto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this traffic collision.

Sad to hear, but sounds like he passed on the right, in the gravel and went down. I don't wish ill will on anyone, but kind of his own fault I think.

Well whose fault do you think it is if you pass a vehicle on the right in a turnout, the other driver? Give me a break!

Report said paved shoulder. I pass the area often and am pretty sure it is paved, but how do you lose control on pavement? Too many guys hopping on motorcycles without a SOLID background in bike protocol, bike skills and general driving skills: passing on the right is a good idea???? Nope.

Just another biker in a hurry and making an illegal maneuver just like most bikers do.

We have all had this happen to us, one time or another. Problem is, it is legal to do this, why, I don’t know. That is a very short pullout and, you better have power to pass! If you don’t know your vehicle, and it’s power, don’t pass. Deadly can be avoided! Get a Shelby 500, case closed. 🤠 👍

You can't pass a vehicle on the right side especially if it is a turnout just because you are riding a motorcycle! That is illegal! What do you think that the turnouts are for?

With the exception of multi-lane freeways, I believe passing on the right is always illegal.

Research this, case closed! It is legal, unfortunately. After a settlement, with loser cutting me off passing on the right and no horse power to get by. Better pay attention and, slow down.

You are right. However, to be legal there must be enough pavement for two vehicles and it must be safe to do so. In this case the pavement ran out and it was not safe to do so, the motorcycle wrecked. The motorcyclist failed to meet both requirements for a safe pass on the right.

Paved or gravel, one does not pass on the right. Condolences to loved ones.

Just another case of an RV driver not pulling over in a turn out. Some tired old blue hair who shouldn't be driving anything ! This does not excuse the MC for passing on the right. Frustrating, but BOTH parties here are responsible. Sorry for the MC rider, hope he recovers

With a CDL for 30 years, now retired, you "Old" amateur class C morons cause more accidents than a brain dead teenager. Get off the road and check in to a retirement home, where you belong.

I have seen many motorcyclists speeding and passing illegally because they are Idiots and always in a hurry. Don't blame this on the RV driver because you don't know the situation.

Not blaming the RV driver, but, when there is traffic behind you, have the courtesy to pull over on the turn outs. I've followed way too many who haven't got the brains to get their entitled asses out of the way for NORMAL traffic flow. CHP should issue these yahoo's a ticket for not maintaining a reasonable speed for conditions !

I always pull over for faster traffic, especially some one stupid enough to pull a POS TT behind a rolling wreck like a Dodge. You kids don't know how to drive a Kia, let alone a real truck. Slap on a Pete with a 18 speed and let me know how you're doing there young fella.

Me and alot of my friends own a trailer and we ain't rich.
Plenty of times cars and motorcycles try to make unsafe passes by me whether I pull over or not.
Stop passing the blame whenever these accidents show up on tpt. You weren't there, so stop with the generalizations.
