Felony DUI Charges for Soulsbyville Juvenile in Death of 19 Year Old Sonora Man
Mi Wuk Village, CA...On September 20, 2021, at approximately 8:34pm, a 17-year-old Juvenile male from Soulsbyville, Ca was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma along with his 19-year-old male passenger from Sonora, Ca westbound on State Route 108, near Koinonia Court in Mi Wuk Village. After the vehicle entered a left hand curve in the roadway, the driver failed to maintain control and allowed the vehicle to travel off the north shoulder of the road where it struck an embankment. After striking the embankment, the vehicle overturned and the unrestrained passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest on its roof, blocking both the eastbound and westbound lanes of State Route 108. Life saving measures were attempted on the passenger, however he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. During this investigation, it was determined the driver was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and after being released from the hospital, he was placed under arrest and booked into the Motherlode Regional Juvenile Detention Center for Felony DUI.
Due to his age, the name of the driver is not being released at this time. The identity of the passenger is being held pending family notification.
