FIRE NEWS.....UPDATE: Telegraph Fire in Mariposa County Has Burned 29,600 Acres with an Estimated Cost of $9 Million Dollars....Continuing Updates Enclosed

Mariposa County, CA... On Friday, July 25th, at approximately 3:15pm a fire was reported on Highway 140 near and Sherlock Road in the Midpines Area above Mariposa County. According to Cal Fire, the fire has now burned almost 30,000 acres, 25 residences, 27 outbuildings/storage buildings. There are currently 4,000 residences threatened. The fire is 10% contained as of 7/29/08 at 7am. Many structures are threatened in the Midpine Area and evacuation warnings are in place for residences in the immediate area of the fire. Agencies assisting Cal fire include:Mariposa County Fire, Mariposa Sheriffs Department, BLM, USFS, CCC, and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.......





As of 7am this morning there was 1 AirAttack, 4 AirTankers, 3 Helicopters, 20 Engines, 8 Hand Crews and 10 Dozers also assisting the fire. According to Cal fire, the fire is burning in the Merced River Drainage, on both sides of the river. The fire is burning with a moderate to rapid rate of spread. Accessibility problems due to steep, rocky and isolated terrain.

UPDATE: as of 8pm this evening the fire has grown to over 16,000 acres with 0% containment. 2,000 residences in the communities of Midpines, Mariposa, Greeley Hill, Coulterville, Bear Valley, and Mt. Bullion Camp are being threatened by the fire. Evacuation order is in place for the Midpines community. An evacuation center has been established at the Mariposa High School.

Right now there are 884 total resources on the fire including: 1 AirAttack, 4 AirTankers, 3 Helicopters, 94 Engines, 20 Hand Crews, 24 Dozers, and 3 Watertenders.

UPDATE:As of 6am this morning the Telegraph fire has burned 26,130 acres with 12 residence destroyed. The fire is only 10% contained. The fire has been determined human caused. They suspect the person or persons were target shooting. Right now there are 2,543 personnel help fighting the blaze, with 1,455 being Cal Fire. They also have 268 Fire Engines, 46 Hand Crews, 39 Dozers, 30 Water tenders, 12 Air tankers, and 12 Helicopters.

UPDATE: As of this morning the telegraph fire has burned 29,600 acres with 10% containment. There are 4,000 residences threatened in the communities of Midpines, Briceburg, Mariposa, Greenley Hill, Coulterville, Bear Valley, and Mt. Bullion Camp. 25 Residences structures have been destroyed and 27 Outbuildings. There has been only 9 minor related injuries. CAL fire is estimating the total cost estimates of this fire to be $9 Million Dollars.

Mandatory Evacuations are in place on various roads between Mariposa, Midpines and Greeley Hill. As of 5 p.m. last night the following roads are in the evacuation area: Texas Hill Rd., Dogtown Rd from Texas Hill Rd to Schilling Rd., Schilling Rd to Hwy 49N, Michaeloaks Rd. with road closure beginning at Hwy 49N. The fire is causing partial and complete closures of Hwy 140 leading to the main entrance to Yosemite National Park. For the latest highway conditions visit Caltrans.

There are 3,458 Personnel (1,766 CAL FIRE) on scene of the fire including base camp. Along with 408 Fire Engines, 71 Hand Crews, 59 Dozers, 30 Watertenders, 13 Helicopters.
