Help FOCSO & Calaveras Cold Case Task Force Raise Funds

San Andreas, CA...Please join the Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office (FOCSO) and the Calaveras Cold Case Task Force on November 5th, 2022, for a formal fundraiser dinner at the Copper Valley Golf Club! This dinner will raise funds for costly forensic DNA analysis to identify previously unidentified human remains in Calaveras County. The Calaveras Cold Case Task Force believes that every victim of violent crime or tragedy deserves to have a voice, have their case investigated, and be laid to rest by their family. The Cold Case Task Force has undertaken the enormous task of identifying a vast quantity of unidentified human remains currently in Calaveras County.

The Sheriff’s Office has already utilized services available from State-funded labs while attempting to test many samples for DNA and has made significant progress. However, due to the quantity and condition of certain remains, additional special analysis is required. Many of these remains require special preparation, equipment, and personnel to forensically recover small or incomplete amounts of DNA.

Additional services are available from private labs using cutting-edge technology, however, the cost for each sample may exceed $10,000. The financial resources for the enormity of this project do not currently exist in the Sheriff’s Office budget, and the Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office has enthusiastically partnered with the Sheriff’s Office in raising the funds to identify these victims.

The dinner will include a delicious meal, exciting guest speakers, a silent auction, a dessert auction, and raffle prizes! Donations are welcome!

Get your tickets today! See the attached flyers for details.

Event occurs on 11/05/2022 from 05:00 PM to 09:00 PM.

Right now the fundraising should be for a decent animal control facility and staff. The Sheriff's department is running it. The facility and nonexistent staffing is unacceptable.

Our towns and roads do not have adequate patrol and have not had it for years. They rarely even write reports so our crime numbers can be counted and addresses. You could see that as soon as they started policing pot, all our communities have suffered.

While cold case work is important and should be ongoing, it should not be the highest priority. Just keeping enough officers for boots on the ground policing has been something the Sheriff has used for an excuse over and over. Put the money into community and street policing.
