FIRE NEWS....100 Acre Vegetation Fire in West Point... Contained as of 8:05pm~By Hanna Alldrin with Contained
West Point, CA....Vegetation Fire is being reported that began at 485 Smitty Lane across from Winton Road in West Point. Blue Mountain is reporting a large steady column of smoke. Units are responding now, no further information at this time. UPDATE #1: Engine 4463 was the first on scene and reported the fire at 2 acres in size. The fire has a dangerous rate of spread, burning brush and timber. One structure is immediately threatened. "We are taking action immediately and call for additional units," engine 4463. UPDATE #2: The fire is moving quickly and growing in size. Units are evacuating many structures that are threatened....
The evacuation center will be set up at the West Point CDF Fire Station. UPDATE #3: A man who lives in the Smitty Lane area has called into the command center and stated that he is surrounded by fire and is stuck inside his home. Units are quickly responding to his home. UPDATE#4: Winton Road at Highway 26 is CLOSED.UPDATE #5 (5:44pm): The fire seems to be growing in size, the current size is unknown at this time, however they are calling for additional units from Mariposa. UPDATE #6 (6:22pm) the fire has now grown to 100 acres in size. UPDATE #7 (6:38pm) According to CAL Fire the fire is nowhere near containment. Check back for more updates.UPDATE #8 (6:52pm)Crews are still battling the fire. UPDATE #9 (7:43pm) Fire crews have been able to gain the upper-hand on the fire. Units are starting to be released however the fire is not contained at this time. Winton Road is now OPEN, please use cation in this area. UPDATE #10 (8:05pm) FIRE HAS BEEN CONTAINED.
