Portions of Stanislaus National Forest Enters High Hazard Fire Restrictions

Sonora, CA...With the release of Forest Service Order FS-16-2023-16, the Stanislaus National Forest will enter into high hazard fire restrictions effective, Wednesday, July 27, 2023.With the forest order, the following items are prohibited in the high hazard areas:



  1. Discharging a firearm

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except in the Developed Recreation Sites

  1. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, within an open within an open Developed Recreation Site listed in Exhibit C, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

  1. Welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame.

  1. Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device that is properly installed, maintained, and in effective working order in accordance with U.S. Forest Service Standard 5100-1.

It would be so helpful if towns were noted on this map - we have NO idea where any of this is in relation to where our towns are.

      I know it means jobs for forest service bureaucrats, and valuable confusion for the general public who use the forests, but why not just forget the maps place the rules over the entire forest?
      The only drawback would be you'd stop a forest fire from occurring somewhere you're guessing they're unlikely to.
