Remember to Ride this Weekend for Feeney Park...It'll be Wild

Murphys, CA...We had the pleasure to speak with John Yost about this weekends Mr. Frog's Wild Ride. John is one of the organizers of the ride that is one of the big fundraisers for the all volunteer supported Feeney Park complex. There are actually two separate rides to choose from based on your cycling ability. The 50K should be comfortable for any recreational cyclist and the 100k is the perfect ride for those of you who relish a challenge. So pump up the tires and fill those water bottles and pedal for the park! Our conversation is enclosed as well as additional information...

From MrFrogsWildRide.org... Welcome to the 2008 Mr. Frog's Wild Ride, the second annual foothills biking event benefiting youth sports in our area. The first ride was a resounding success, and we intend to make it even better the second time around with the help of our riders, sponsors and volunteers. Mark your calendars now to come to Calaveras County to bicycle through the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills. All proceeds benefit Feeney Park, a non-profit community sports and recreational facility in Murphys, complete with youth soccer and baseball fields, skatepark, walking trails, picnic areas, and an amphitheater.

October is a great time for cyclists to get into the frontier spirit evoked by Mark Twain in his "Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." Mr. Frog's Wild Ride offers two alternative ways for cyclists to enjoy the historic and natural wonders of the heart of the Gold Rush area:

MR. FROG'S WILD 100K RIDE is a challenging ride. A total climb of 8,300 feet over steep ridges and into deep canyons, past vineyards and through sweeping, open meadows. This 63+ mile route follows back roads through historic towns, including the gold-mine town of Sheep Ranch, where you will be rewarded for surviving the first portion of this challenge with a rest stop at the historic Pioneer Hotel. Then leave the open-range sheep of Sheep Ranch to continue your day of cycling discovery. The variety is remarkable: for example, a stretch beside a creek bed in a thick incense cedar forest is closely followed by a steep chaparral descent with sweeping views over a series of ranges and into the Central Valley.

MR. FROG'S WILD 50K RIDE has its own challenges: its total climb is 2,500 feet, with some steep hills. Like the 100k ride, the 50K ride has more than its share of historic barns, vineyards, cattle, creek side stretches and sweeping views. Ride this 30-mile route and you will have a fine idea of why cyclists want to live in Calaveras County, with its great mix of varied rural back roads and historic communities.

Everyone from kids to grandparents are welcome to join in on the fun whether riding or not. Spend Saturday wine tasting, hiking, enjoying the sights and history, shopping or just relaxing. There will be overnight tent camping allowed inside of Feeney Park, plus great food, live music, and much, much more!

This ride is meant for the safe enjoyment of our participants. Every participant should train for the challenges presented by that rider's chosen route. Use of CPSC approved helmets is required. The California Vehicle Code must be followed, and courtesy to other riders and drivers is expected. Although these two routes are paved, much of the traveling is on back roads that have undergone much spot patching, leaving irregularities and bumps. Potholes happen. Ride organizers and sponsors are not responsible for the condition of the pavement surface. Every rider should carry personal identification and spare tubes, a tire pump and a patch kit. Waivers will be signed on race day. Online registration cut off time will be 12:00pm on October 18th. All later registration must be done in person on site. REFUNDS: Up to 15 days before ride: Refund minus Paypal or Active fees and $10 MFWR processing fee. 14-5 days before ride: 50% of total amount paid. 5 days before ride: no refund.
