Dr. James Lee Windle, 72, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in Torrance, CA.
James was born February 3, 1936 in Colby, KS to Cyril Maxwell Windle and Emma Lou (Mahoney) Windle. James grew up and graduated from Colby High School. He received his bachelors degree in agriculture from Fort Hays State University in Hays. KS, where he met his first wife, Karen Murray. He received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California.......
James married his first wife, Karen Loren Murray on August 5, 1961 in Scott City, KS. They were married for 27 years before Karen’s passing on September 30, 1988. They had three children: Cheri, James, and Tonya.
James was later married to Kathleen Margaret Haniger Stribling in 1995.
He was an elementary school teacher at Santa Clarita Elementary School, a principal at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, and a Superintendent for the Lake Hughes Unified School District. He was later a principal at Mark Twain Elementary School and a Superintendent at Weaverville Unified School District. He later worked for the Miwok reservation and was a professor at Chapman University and National University.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Saugus, CA, a Freemason and a U.S. Navy veteran.
James had a passion for teaching, helping and working with children, students and youth. He was remembered fondly by his former students for his enthusiasm, discipline and commitment to his students’ success. Among his fondest memories was regularly dressing up as Santa Claus for schoolchildren.
James was passionate about history throughout his life and was an avid antique collector. He loved adventure and the outdoors, travelling, hiking and camping often with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheri Bise and husband Rhett of Redondo Beach, CA, sisters Violet Guida of Temecula, CA and Francis Horowitz of Granada Hills, CA, grandson Rhett James Bise and his second wife, Kathleen of Tracy, CA.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife Karen, his son James, his daughter Tonya, his sister Esther Eloise Frederick, and brothers Raplh Windle, and Robert Windle.
A memorial service was held at 11am Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the St. James Anglican Church in Sonora, CA.
