Winterizing Your Home~by Robert Barkley, Handyman Arnold Ace Home Center

Arnold, CA...Winter is approaching, slowly it seems, but inevitably winter will be upon us. As the temperature drops and the snow falls, vacation homes left unattended for even short periods of time are potentially at peril. Freezing water is your home’s worst enemy. Most commonly plumbing supply lines can burst causing flood damage. Preventing expensive damage means more than just turning off the main water supply. Here is a checklist to help you protect your cabin from winter damage...

1. Turn off main water supply
2. Evacuate your plumbing by opening the valves on all fixtures such as showers
and faucets
3. Disconnect washing machine supply lines and open all exterior hose bibs
4. Insulate all exposed copper supply pipes
5. Place insulated covers on hose bibs
6. Add anti freeze to sinks, toilets and showers to protect fixtures from freezing water in P traps

Be sure your cabin is prepared for the winter. Stop by the Arnold Ace Home Center for helpful advice and supplies. Winterization is just one of the services offered by Ace’s Handyman Services, just call 795-1331 to schedule a handyman appointment and let Ace do the work for you!
