Don Winkler, CAL Fire Firefighter, Passes Away

San Andreas, CA....It is with great sadness that Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit (TCU) of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) announces the passing of Don Winkler. Don completed his sixth season as a firefighter stationed at the Columbia Air Base, where his main duty was to load the air tankers with fire retardant. .....

Services for Mr. Winkler will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 in Camarillo, California. In honor of Mr. Winkler, flags within TCU will be flown half staff starting Monday, December 8, 2008 8AM and will return to full staff Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 8AM. There will be a memorial held locally, however that date has not been determined.

Donald A. Winkler, 68, of Sonora was the gentleman that was killed in a motorcycle collision on Saturday December 6th in Tulolumne County.

Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Winkler's family and friends during this time.
